Today's word of the day made me wonder about Deuteronomy, the third book in the bible.

The word of the day reads, "deuteragonist (doo-tuh-RAG-uh-nist, dyoo-) noun

The second most important part in a play.

[From Greek deutero- (second) + agonistes (contestant, actor).] -Anu Garg (words at wordsmith.org)"

Why is the third book in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) called the second (Deutero). Does this mean that Deuteronomy is the second most important book of the bible? If so, what is the *most* important book (of the old testament)? Or is the the second book of the story of Moses?

Bible scholars?

I'll tell you...a blind, deaf, quadriplegic that happens to be an atheist.

My point is centered on atheism, and I am not trying to offend anyone. If I do, you have my sincerest apologies. Those who deny GOD are handicapped when they refuse to acknowledge the presence of GOD through the eyes of faith. It's that mysterious sixth sense that people are not able to quantify. GOD is everywhere, and is responsible for everyday things that we take for granted, and thus we are not able to comprehend it in the typical five senses. Open your heart to GOD, if you haven't already, and discover the truth. GOD is timeless, infinite, and all-knowing. HE is the best resource for all things. If you don't believe me, just ask HIM...you'll see.

I remember when there were loads of answer to almost any queston, what happened? or is it just the time of day?

Say God did not create evil, when he himself claims that he did in Isaiah 45:7, Lamentations 3.38, and Amos 3:6. I am finding this Bible Story so confusing....

Christians, I think it is time to stop the debate with atheists. Is not because if you debate with them they gonna convince you, but because it is wasting time.

I don't think God send people to argue with atheists. Christians, do not try to demonstrate that God exist. We know he exists. Nature can tell us that.

I am sure many atheists fake being Christians here just to say "I am Christian and I agree with what that atheists said." Just let Atheists be what they want to be. Don't be stocked trying to explain things to people who do not want to listen.

Don try to inculcate your belief on them. Let's stop answering the "if, what if............." questions always make. To create a fight, there has to be two or more fighters. I think it is time to stop. Let atheists ask their own questions. Time is precious and should not be wasted.

violence is part of the animal world - and hence must be part of God.

Did God create violence ?

Look at the way a spider kills its food. 1 example of created violence - not man made ?

I feel as if I have "lost touch" with God more and more as I've been enduring difficulty with certain parts of my life. Could my moving away from spirituality and a personal relationship with God be the reason for such difficulties? Do you find things in your life go better when you are nearer to God?

1. God LOVES you and offers a wonderful PLAN for your life.

"God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" John 3:16.

Why is it that people are not experiencing the abundant life?

2. Man is SINFUL and SEPARATED from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God's love and plan for his life.

Man Is Sinful
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23.

3. Jesus Christ is God's ONLY provision for man's sin. Through Him you can know and experience God's love and plan for your life.

"God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" Romans 5:8.

4. We must individually RECEIVE Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know and experience God's love and plan for our lives.

"As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name" John 1:12

They say that your concept of a trinity is rooted in Pagan beliefs, as is your Jesus. They say that your version of god is blasphemous, and nowhere even close to what God actually is. Jews even say that there is no intermediary between man and God, and that it's okay for others to believe in other Gods, because God gave the Gentiles all manner of things to worship. They say that all righteous souls go to heaven eventually, without the belief in Jesus, that includes Jews and Gentiles alike. They've been doing this for centuries BEFORE your 'messiah' was even thought of, and they say that your 'messiah' doesn't fit the job description for the actual messiah. Not only does he not fit the description, but he also didn't do what the mashi'ah was supposed to do. They say you pretty much have a Judaism, Mitrhaism, Paganism mashup of a religion, and prove it with the actual Hebrew bible (that didn't have any Greek or Aramic writers).

Leviticus 24:13 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying ...
Leviticus 24:20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.

Exodus 20:1 And God spake all these words, saying ...
Exodus 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

Deuteronomy 19:21 And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

But Jesus said:
Matthew 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
Matthew 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

If God never changes, and His Laws are absolute, why did Jesus tell the Jews to ignore God's repeated law on "an eye for an eye" (Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy) and try to replace that law with "turn the other cheek"?

That is, for example, in the R&S section people express their beliefs with a level of freedom they would likely not have in the day to day around them.

If I were to talk to all my friends and family and tell them the things I think and express here - they'd lock me up, burn me at the stake, etc.

I am still unsure about this. I believe in eternal security due to these verses-----

Romans8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(KJV)

Romans8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
(KJV)

2 Timothy2:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
(KJV)

However, there are those that believe you can lose your salvation. I don't understand what verses they are using. So if you could post those for me and why you either believe that we have eternal security or we don't (with scriptural reference only please) I would greatly appreciate it.

Non Christians, you will just be ignored, so no use. Thanks.

After reading John Cepek's question, I became even more aware of how hateful our society is. Everything we have uncovered about the sexuality of mammals point to the largest determining factors being before birth. It is sad to see individuals still using a book(The Bible) that is twisted on so many levels, as an excuse to look down upon these individuals.

For the ladies that don't attend church..are there any occasions where you would dress in a more conservative style than you normally would?

I asked this question, in a different way, once before and got SCORCHED by women for asking. I understand it's up to me to control myself. I'm just asking for your perspective on this.
