I think it's just natural to feel closer to God at some points in your life and further at others. A lot of times it reflects what you're going through: if you experience difficulties you feel farther from God. At the lowest point in my life, when things were going really badly for me, I did feel pretty distant from God. As I said, it's natural. Some people, however, feel close to God in difficulties because they find comfort in him.
It's hard when you want to feel close to God but just can't, because there's no real formula for it. Just stay honest and earnest and live your life, and things will come around.

They say "God works in mysterious ways" and I believe it. When I was 20, I lost my dad to cancer and lost all hope in God. I was angry and bitter and felt that my God would not foresake me like that. It took me a quite a while to come back to God and those were very tough and emotional days, but I did and it was the best thing in my life. Even though I don't attend church every Sunday, I still feel like I have a personal relationship with God. I feel like my days have meaning and I am a happier person because of it. I believe in the power of prayer to get answers from the big guy so maybe you should try more praying when things in your life get overwhelming. I know it has helped me. I hope it will help you :)

Troubles can either tend to make us lose faith in the Lord, or just the opposite, help us draw closer to Him. The place of help in trouble is close to Him. One of my very favorite helps in time of trouble is the 91st Psalm. I committed it to memory many years ago, and it has been such a blessing. Suggestion? Read your Bible more.......and ask the Lord to speak to you as you read. As you begin to have a good feeling about certain verses, highlight them and put a date alongside the verse.........and then spend time meditating in the verse, and its meaning to you. Most Christians go thru deep valleys......but God brings us out. I was in a deep valley for a long time, but now the Lord has restored great joy into my life.......it is marvelous.
I do not think we can find reasons for difficulties, such as you suggest. Some of the most devout Christians suffer greatly. And it is in that very suffering they find a new closeness and companionship with the Lord. I hope this helps, friend......keep looking up. Blessings to you.

I find that when I spend time in the word, and praying, and just worshipping God, things are better. I'm a little happier, and it's a little easier to deal with the things that are put on me, because I am giving these things to God. You've got to try as hard as possible to keep God the center of your life, no matter how hard things are, or the difficulties you are facing. He will help you through if you allow him to.

Good Morning Beth...Sometimes when our lives change due to a busy schedule or a move or a job and maybe perhaps school we take God for granted by thinking He's always there whenever we need Him. God is always with us in spirit and in our hearts and mind but God wants His children to call Him once in awhile and to pray to Him on occasion. We, as His children sometimes forget that He's there and we forget to call upon Him for thanks or forgiveness or asking Him for help. He does so much for us but yet with our busy schedules we sometimes forget that He's waiting to hear from us, His children. God helps those whom help themselves. He has placed us on a road that could lead us in the right direction or the wrong direction in life with many obstacles. He knows that we are not perfect children but He does expect us to call upon Him, and not, when we just need Him.Life seems to go better when you talk to the Father, Our Lord everyday or at least every other day. I imagine that God isn't too happy when His children go astray or forgets to pray. You will find that talking to God more often makes each day a better day. Hope this has helped. Have a blessed day!

Even in the natural world, if you move away from a relationship, you will "lose touch".
It is not so different when talking about a relationship with God.
Things may not "go better" when I am nearer to God, but praying does help to ride the waves.

God maybe trying to get your attention by allowing you to go through difficulties. Also, when we go through trials it seems like God is so far away. Just keep praying and thinking about Him. Ask Him to draw you close, to let you see Him in the middle of the problems. Know that He is on your side, and your difficulties will soon pass. Ask Him to send other christians your way for encouragement. I will be praying for you too.

I find that difficulties in my life generally come from Satan. He is the one that has caused them. When we lose touch with God though and we do not pray, how can we expect such difficulties to be conquered? Being in touch with God always provides a certain hope, and at times, this hope alone can make us feel happier :) .

Not necessarilly-Your relationship with God is not dependant upon your feelings-from what you've said you seem to be beating yourself up with guilt-don't! If you want to pursue a relationship with God then put some of the basics back-prayer, praise, meeting with others etc but don't think that everything in your life will come right. If you choose not to pursue a relationship with God then look at what is happening and see whether you can change anything in your approach to life to change things-Either way -Good Luck/ God Bless.

Stay in God's Word.Stop and you backslide. There is no neutral ground in life. And no,things are never easy in life for a Christian, but there is a peace that passeth all understanding, that nominal Christians will never have in life.Loving this world is to be at enmity with God.The closer you are to God,the more hardships will come your way.We are in a spiritual war,you know.Read the epistles.
