That is, for example, in the R&S section people express their beliefs with a level of freedom they would likely not have in the day to day around them.

If I were to talk to all my friends and family and tell them the things I think and express here - they'd lock me up, burn me at the stake, etc.

I think that this forum builds people's egos. I think many people get puffed up over their wit and sarcasm for the clever insulting commments they make to others. But I agree with what you are saying. Anonymity is refreshing to people on here. They are more apt to say opinions openly that they wouldn't feel comfortable expressing face to face.

Anonymity provides a level of safety. It's not unlike using a racial slur or an obscene finger gesture in the safety of your locked car.

In my experience, people are either extremely honest or extremely dishonest about who they are online. I use that ideal to judge the characters of others here.

I find that online, it is easier to express your true nature. Those who aspire to be clear and free will see this aspect expressed; those that are dealing with obstructions to their true nature will see this magnified.
Those who are unconsciously living fully from ego will see ego inflated. There is plenty of all of this here.

I say what I mean and mean what I say. There is nothing I would not say here that I have not said in real life.

At MOST I have curbed my views to certain people in order to gain something.

(IE: talking about threesomes with a conservative girl won't get you laid, or talking about how much baloney religion is with a girl who is wearing a cross on her neck in a bar is also not the best of ideas until after you have had her).

If people knew what I really thought in real life, most of them would hate me.

So the answer to your question is no, it's the opposite that is true. I shed my ego in real life.

I am who I am, here or anyplace else. If people can't accept me here or in "real life" it's their problem.
