Would they be able to carry on a successful debate with mainstream Christian clergy? Has this ever been done?

How many of you are tired of seeing this question? I'm a Christian and I believe you have every right to be here. Is there really no way to explain the difference between religion, and spirituallity, to make this question stop showing up?

In Exodus, chapter 20, we read the Ten Commandments, and are told that we should not commit adultery. Adultery however is not defined as simply having sex outside of marriage. It's defined as having sex with a married person. Nothing is said to prohibit sexual relations between two unmarried people. In fact, if we look in the book of Leviticus, we are given a list of every situation in which we should not have sex. We're not to have sex with married people, or with family members, or with animals. We are not, however, prohibited from having sex with an unmarried person who is not in our family.

Some places in the bible, such as Mark 7:21, state that "fornication" is a sin. Christians like to interpret that as meaning "sex outside of marriage." It's not true. The Greek translation identifies "fornication" as being any "illicit (illegal) sexual activity." However, as we saw above, God did not mention sex between two unmarried people as being illicit.

How is it possible to say that this verse calls for terrorism?

Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits, for Allah does not love transgressors. 2:190

Look at the words. It says to fight those "who fight you". It says to fight only when somebody is fighting you. It doesn't say to whip out a weapon and start fighting for no reason. It says to defend yourself. It also says not to go overboard. Just defend yourself.

Can you please tell me why this is commonly quoted as a call to kill any unbeliever?

Okay I've been reading my Bible alot lately and focusing alot on Galatians I wonder, how could anyone think that salvation is through our on works? So, reading on and on in Galatians 3, it was completely spell out to me that salvation comes through faith. The Bible spells this out so clearly in another verse, that every Christian must have heard.

It goes like this: "By grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, NOT of works, lest any man should boast.

So I say this, anyone on the other side of the fence in this issue, please put forth your Scriptures, that say you should work to get your salvation.

It funny to me to hear the comments on Answers on how you don't believe that there's a God and how we, Christians, waste our time believing. Isn't it kind of funny that you too...atheist...believe also, that there isn't a God. Seems like a 50/50 chance to me!! Anyways....lets say.....that the bible is true....heaven and hell are true....and there is a God. The funny thing is....you find out to late.....and your standing before a God you didn't think existed.....should He still accept you into heaven or should you be banished to the lake of fire to spend for eternity?? What if (which I know it is) the bible is true and you were deceived the whole time??

Reading the bible is like reading Shakespeare. Maybe atheism would be more marketable if we had more of the flowery, grandiose, larger than life imagery that the believers are so good at. Some of it is so awe-inspiring and imaginative. Agree or disagree?

How in the world can atheism ever compete with this ...

"Reason is the Devil's greatest whore; by nature and manner of being she is a noxious whore; she is a prostitute, the Devil's appointed whore; whore eaten by scab and leprosy who ought to be trodden under foot and destroyed, she and her wisdom ... Throw dung in her face to make her ugly. She is and she ought to be drowned in baptism ... She would deserve, the wretch, to be banished to the filthiest place in the house, to the closets."
— Martin Luther (1483-1546)

All people who deliberately do wrongs in the name of God risk the worst punishment in hell because they are hypocrites. To do something in the name of God is because you are trying to do what is right.

The real intention of people who do knowingly do wrong in the name of God is in just a cover for actions which are in the name of something else.

These other justifications are all possible and present without religion. A genuinely religious people must remove any intention in his / her action which is not purely to please God through doing what is right.

Why should you let hypocrites control your judgment?

When was the last time you had a really good time without committing some kind of silly "sin?" I don't think that rape and murder are cool, obviously. But what bout all the stupid little sins that they make a big deal out of? Drunkeness? Lust? I mean seriously, how is it any of your business (or "god" for that matter.

If it doesn't hurt anyone it can't be unethical, enjoy your life.

Some people believe in Allah.

Some people believe in nature.

Some people believe in

Why use this area to bash something else you don't believe in?

Why not keep your questions to things that really interest you as opposed to spreading an agenda. (I guess I broke my own rule just now... ;-) )

I mean sheesh, the earth is beautiful, enjoy it, take care of it, be at peace.
