By answering this question with a positive response, I hereby pledge to debate issues and ideas on their own merits. I promise not to attack people with insults or stereotypes. I will not make assumptions about other people's morality based on their religious belief (or lack thereof). I hereby renounce trolling and hate speech, as well as humor at another person expense.

I also agree to respectfully disagree when debating people whose ideas I do not share.

I also agree that I do not know everything and may in fact be wrong.

I'll take it a step further. When I see questions addressed to people who do not share my beliefs, I'll ignore the question, unless I feel I have something worthwhile to add. (For example, I may answer a question directed at atheists as a former atheist.)

I humbly ask that ALL people of ALL beliefs on here do the same!

And you can have a star for this one!

Can I agree with it all except that last line??? Because I am rarely wrong - just ask my fiancee. She will tell you. Irritates the crap out of her...

Anyway, yes, I promise to do this - in fact, I try to be like this regardless. The only time I do attack with insults is when I feel the need to defend myself from another's attack.

One other point - humor comes at the expense of SOMEONE, doesnt it?

You're not gonna have "under God" in your pledge, are you?

You know, I appreciate your sentiment. And I'm gonna try to find a little more benign humor in things and be less confrontational. But I can't promise someone isn't gonna get me spooled up every now and then and get me to say something mean.

Prepare for a hostile response from people.
I tried advocating for respect on R&S once and It was the single most negative response I have ever gotten for a question.

I will continue to express my own opinions as I see fit. I have no interest renouncing my absolute right to freedom of speech. If people have a problem with my opinions, they simply don't have to read them. If people verbally assault me, I will continue to reply in kind.

Intolerance is the word used when people are told that if there is a truth, then anything but it would essentially be wrong. I don't mean that saying "I'm Christian, so you can rot in hell because I'm saved. Neener Neener!" is acceptable in the least bit. Some of your points are good , some not so much.

God Bless,
Elisha
