What if... it's the complete opposite?
Ever thought about that? Now I used to be an atheist, and I've thought about that question a lot ("what if there is a god after all and I only find out too late and get sent to hell because I don't believe?") the question in itself is rediculous! Would God send people of any other religion to hell if the bible was the truth, only because they had a different religion?
Does that mean that over 4/5th of the world's population is completely wrong?
I decided to believe that there might be an otherworld - that we all come together there and then realise NONE OF US were right after all...
**edit**
and christians can't explain anything... strange, huh?

As many others will tell you, look up Pascal's Wager.
Beyond that, the odds against a god are much better than 50%...it's more like 95%.
"What if (which I know it is) the bible is true and you were deceived the whole time??".
First of all, you believe the bible is true (belief and fact are two very different things).
Secondly, for the bible to be true, all of history would have to be re-created. Nothing that the bible states (historically) can be proven archeologically...not the flood, the exodus, the existence of the savior, the creation legend...nothing.

There is a simple answer to this, first off, the chance of god is not 50/50 as there is no evidence for a god and thus should be regarded as myth until evidence surfaces. Second, there are hundreds of possible gods with as much credibility as yours so you have likely chosen incorrectly even if there is a god. Third, even if there is a god, and it is the christian god... if he/she wants to banish me to hell despite being a good person because i didn't worship/feed said gods ego, then fine by me... I like the alternative better in that situation.

Yes actually scientists can explain it with evidence and repeatable tests.
Maybe you should look around at this thing called "evolution" I know it's brand new but it sure does explain a lot AND it's repeatable in many instances!
If the bible is true then this planet is flat and the earth revolves around the sun. Just want to make sure we are all on the same page, k thx.

Let's say God is real. According to much of what He wrote in the Bible, I don't feel He is worthy of praise anyway. If you take the Bible literally, God hates homosexuals, condones stoning children to death for disobeying their parents, and killing those who worship other gods. Also, your 50/50 chance of God existing is misguided. God either exists or he doesn't. That is a fact. However, that doesn't make the probability 50%. You can't talk in terms of probability when there is no way to test for existence.

Its true scientist cant explain alot of things about the world, but what makes you think its a god what did those things? it could be anything, theres no 50/50 chance of a god at all, stop living in your fairytale.

You got a math problem. Not to mention, a logic and education problem. Its not 50/50, its more like 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% (almost to infinity but I don't want to keep typing a 9 over and over again) chance the atheist is right.

so....we are supposed to believe in god just to be on the safe side?
i would hope not, because like they say...it's the thought that counts. and if there really was a god, don't you think he'd know that you were only playing the part of a religious follower just so you won't burn in hell? come on now.....either you commit to believing or you don't. you can't ride the fence post.

If I die, and I end up standing in front of god and he asks me why I didn't believe, I will be honest "no evidence, God, no evidence...."
Look around at what!? There is no evidence on this earth that proves there is a higher being controlling anything, in fact the evidence strongly points the other way!

This puts a negative view of religion in the public eye ( yet again), making those who are uncommitted feel uncomfortable with the religion thing, and making our work of weaning humanity away from their 2000 year old pacifier oh so much easier!
