You asked: "How coincidental is it that god hates the same things you hate?"
It's not coincidental, but logical because whether you believe:
1) God made man in his image (then we would naturally hate the same things He hates)
or
2) Man made God in his image (then God would naturally hate the same things we hate.)
God is more like man and man is more like God than many people care to admit. By acknowledging that man possesses godliness it takes away from God, just as admitting God possesses human frailty & emotions (wrath of god, etc), makes God seem less worthy of divine worship.
Whether you believe in a Creator and his creations, or creators and their creation, it is no coincidence that we are all intertwined.

C. No coincidences...
People will look for a belief system that encompass the beliefs, prejudices, etc., that they already hold and will choose that belief system to follow.
It's really no big surprise that fundamentalist christians hate abortion, homosexuals, individuals of other belief systems, etc. and claim that their God hates these things also, because they went into that belief system already having those prejudices...and just put them over onto their "god" as justification for said prejudices.

C.
Proverbs 6
16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Ah yes, but God gave us the ten commandments so we would know at least ten of the things that are sin...Thing is, we have to figure a lot of them out on our own...although quite a few are still mentioned in the Bible...now smoking has no commandment, for instance, but the bible says not to trash up your temple,,the temple being your body....so I think smoking is a sin..and gluttony is defin listed...as are homosexual activity (God calls it evil) both in the new and the old Testament.....and drinking is mentioned, as in,,,,don't drink strong drink..not sure if this means a glass of wine is alright but not a bottle....your call..

Its amazing how often god wants the same things as his followers do. They must really have a direct conduit to god to get it all right all the time.

A very insightful question. but the God I believe in is incapable of hate as we know it. He has created the world, you would not hate that which you create.

When you hate the same things your god hates, odds are that you created him in your image.

It's no coincidence when one figures that Christians are trying to conform to God's values (however imperfectly we may do so) rather than create our own.
