Today if someone said a burning bush had spoken to them or that they had parted an ocean, or talked to entity they could not see that person would likely be institutionialized. How can men seen for thousands of years as prophets or messiahs with tales such as these survive in a world where if such occurances happened today, people would suspect insanity?

When I speak about the Bible and actually quote the Bible (God's word), non-believers will tell me that I am being judgmental and that's not CHrist-like because only God's is to judge us. But I don't think I'm judging anyone (ever), I'm just quoting the Bible, saying how God has told us to live our lives in order to gain eternal life with Him and I express my personal opinions. But I can't judge people.

I think many people, whether believers or not, are confusing what "being judgmental" means in regards to what God means by that term verses what mankind has put on that term. Mankind has lawyers and judges in the court system. We have laws. We don't tell our judges not to judge us, that only God can do that. Earthly judging is completely different from Heavenly judging, right? Please help me express this! Thanks for your input!

when i was young (in the 1980's) i was watching tv with my mom and on the news they were talking about a bombing at a abortion clinic. I was too young to understand in any capacity, why someone would do that, and when i asked my mom why, she subtly infered that "sometimes people have to do certain things to make god's will done."
My mom was no means a wacko super hypocrite off the wall variety christian.
I think that the true reason why she would say such a thing back then and would never admit to saying that now is because of the liberalizing effect culture (and the media) have had on the minds of lay christians who never realized how such notions are no different than how jihad-variety muslims think.
lay christians don't think like that no more for one main reason: secularists have coerced them not to.
agree?

I copied from Bishop Robert M. Solomon's "Faith & Fiction"

On page 38

Theologian Athanasius ( 296 - 373 CE )'s major work "On the Incarnation", a classic and powerful defence of the divinity of Christ

. Only God can save. No creature can save another.
. Jesus is God. Therefore only He can save. If He was less than God, He would not be able to save humankind.
. Because Jesus saves, He must be God.

In my family, the RH problem reared its ugly head.

Because of this, my mother had two still births and lost a pair of twins.

Two of my brothers and myself are only alive because we had transfusions at birth.

While I know there are now other ways to deal with RH, which saved my son from needing a transfusion, those options weren't available in the 60s.

I've had JWs in the past try to tell me that they would never allow there own child to have a transfusion and that my mother should have let my brothers and I die.

How can they possibly justify this stand and expect someone who is alive only because of a transfusion to agree with them?

It's true! When discussing origin theories, you can leave out examples of changes within a species because that is evident to everyone. What you should try to show is any sort of new information in the DNA of a species. Not just a beneficial change. It has to come about by additional information in DNA and can't come from a LOSS of genetic information.

All their attitudes are straight out of newspapers, magazines, and television. They all take the same exact view of everything as the media,it never fails. You don't have to ask an atheist his/her opinion on anything; if you already know the media spin or "take" you already know what atheists "think". Simply put:whatever the media thinks. Period. I've never known an exception. How can you people exist like that? Never having an independent thought?

I need reliable scientific proof about the evolution process, and how we and the universe came to be, and by that same token, some information to dispell creationism.

Yeah, this is one of those evolution/creationism debates that I have gotten myself into with a hard-core religious person. I am atheist by the way.

While I respect the religion of others, I will most certainly defend evolution against creationism anyday.

I have done my research, but am looking for additional information to present to the person I am debating with.

I would really like to know this. We live in a day and age where I am surprised to see people still believe in God and the Devil, Heaven and Hell. It's all a bunch of nonsense. All it was back then was to explain why things happen and people are still believing in it.

Can anyone tell me why Europe is basically a secular society? Is it because religion is not valued? I ask that only people who can provide a serious and thought out answer respond.

Yes, everything mentioned in the book of Revelation is a symbol - the answer key is the rest of the bible. Revelation ties together all the themes of the bible into one cohesive whole - trying to understand Revelation without understanding the references from the Old Testament is a waste of time and will only lead you down a rabbit trail.

For example - I have seen people on this board complain about the verse which says that in heaven there will no longer be any sea (some people like the sea very much , I am one of them!) But the sea symbolically represents chaos, disorder, evil, and "unfinishedness" in the bible - See for example the first chapter of Genesis where the Spirit of God is hovering over the waters of the abyss before the creation of the world.
