Are you announcing that the theory that the existence that now animates you having spontaneously arisen from not something billions of years in the past, does not dictate the way you reside your existence? Are you announcing which you prefer to stay your existence dictated with the aid of a e book written a hundred and fifty yrs in the past and already previous? Or the textbook written final year announcing "we now understand" and is already previous? Or the textbook "capitulating" common fraudulant records because of the fact it continues to be insructive for the theory as an entire? Me? I prefer to take my dictate from the e book that has remained unchanged for millennia and the spirit that breathed it. the precise same that provided the society and freedom you employ to invite the questions you do. the precise same that provided the technology which you will nicely attempt and use to discredit it

Catholics don't; we think for ourselves, but stick with the Church on theological essentials. The clergy certainly doesn't runmy life. If you are adressing fundies, why not say so? Tough to spell,or what? Anyway,I know plenty of atheists - all of them prototypical upscale urban liberal types - and THEIR lives are totally, utterly and completely dominated by the mass media. Whether news or entertainment,it's their god and it really does control their lives. They believe anything they're told,do anything they're told, etc. Newspapers,tv and magazines do all their thinking for them. So who are you guys to talk?

It is less fearsome for some people to let others govern their lives. Religion is a wonderful tool by which to give power over one's life to other people.

"Why do people let religion govern their lives?"
Fear, childhood teaching and family custom, habit, addiction to it, a tendency to embrace myths and absurdities which they would dismiss in other contexts (talking snakes, walking on water, virgin births, etc.), loneliness, low social skills, a desire to be a part of a group, and, sorry to say it, ignorance, low education, and even fear of sex, a tendency of bowing down to rules and authority. It's a long roster, even longer than I've pulled together in responce to your question.

Well it's not much different from believing we were once Apes or are made up of tiny, one dimensional strings you can't ever see.
I mean if you want to believe you're a bunch of strings, it's ok with me!
