How many Atheists, Agnostics, Freethinkers, Humanists, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Shintos, Confucianists, Satanists, Taoists, Pagans, and anybody from any other religion are there here at this moment in time?

Also what's been going on in this section since I don't come around here all that often?

Christianity believes that God became manifest in human form through Jesus. Is there any 'record' of anything like this in other faiths with their goddesses?

Is the Goddess REAL, or simply (and I'm not belittling Her here) a personification, a metaphor, an attempt at explaining the unexplainable, of connecting to the feminine aspect of the Divine?

When I speak to friends or family who have known me for over 30 years they tell me what a great dad I am, how I am a good husband to my wife etc. Friends who have known me since elementary school will tell me they don't know how they got through life without some of my advice.

BUT, in the past year or so I have been a little more verbal about the fact that I have never believed in a God or Jesus etc. Now they all gang up and tell me I am going to hell and they cannot believe they know me.

First off, please understand I do not believe in God, so that also means I do not believe in Hell or Satan or whoever you want to group me with to spend my eternal days of damnation.

Christians generally believe that no faith imparts the virtues of love and forgiveness more effectively than their own...so why are they the most hostile?

Out of curiosity really, a lot of Christians will tend to agree with one another and say that there are no contradictions within the bible, yes? How about the contradictions made when interpreting the bible, for example, some Christians will take the account of Genesis quite literally, yet, religious scholars/theologians insist that Genesis etc...contains symbolic truths as opposed to literal or scientific truths...why is this? Who should non-Christians turn to for genuine questions about the bible when there's so many contradicting responses?

An example of this would be, those that accept the radiometric dating of the Earth to be roughly 4.5 billion years and those who believe that the Earth is roughly 10,000 years old. Why is there no universal teaching system in place to avoid such confusions?

This is a serious question. I've noticed a couple of posts / responses to posts on R&S asking people to provide scripture pertaining to free will. I know that God chooses us, but I have also read several scriptures that encourage us to choose:

Joshua 24:15
2 Kings 18:32
Prov 1:29
Prov 8:10
Prov 16:16
Isaiah 7:15
Isaiah 56:4
Phil 1:22
1 Peter 4:3

Is this not free will? If not, what is the meaning of the scriptures that encourage us to choose God's ways / discourage us from choosing our own ways?

The truth is, there is no god, but we can't handle the truth. Your mind can't handle knowing that it will not exist once you actually die. To know that there is nothing after you die is too scary for your brain and will actually force your to belive there is something, anything when there is nothing. Is it so hard to belive that we live and die the same as animals, how are we better than an ant i crush, its dead, it aint got to 'heaven'.

our brains don't want to DIE, religon makes it all better. You think poeple are addicted to drugs because they need to escape reality, what is that, 10% of the population at the most? Now look at the 80% that are ADDICTED to 'god' because they cant handle life?!

God is a drug for people of low brain power

King James Version, Leviticus 11:20: All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.

I couldn't find any, does anyone have any links to the species of fowl god is talking about? Did god remove them from the planet to stop us from eating them? If so, why didn't he also remove homosexuality and shellfish? 10 points to the person that can find a scientifically verified species of fowl that creeps on all four, or 10 points to the person that gives the most convincing argument against the existence of such fowl.

I hear a lot of people saying that Jehovah's Witnesses aren't going to heaven because they don't believe that Jesus was divine, but that he was God's son. Why is this important? It seems that it is more of a inessential theology thing than the big deal it is made into. Why is this important?

It is nothing more than an ancient Babylonian myth. Its source more than likely is the "Epic of Gigamesh."

I'm feeling quite annoyed by many people. I have questions about the Bible, and I'm sure others do to, I only want to become closer to God.

Some people feel that God is fictional and the Bible is a fiction story. Christianity is my religion, along with many other peoples. What gives people the right to smash me + my questions on yahoo answers?

I don't reply negatively to YOUR religious questions.

So I guess my question is, what are everyone else's views on this?

i'm a christian and i'm 14 years-old but i've been depressed ever since 2005 and i think it is getting worse. I took this test in a book and it ask question like," how much do you sleep?" and you answer by rating it from 1-5, 1 being the less. When i've finished taking the test, my score was rated Worst Stage in Depression. I really need help, I've been thinking about taking drugs or drink heavily with beer because i've heard that it takes away the pain for a while, but still i believe that it will ruin my health. I'm tired of crying every night while in the day i hide underneath a mask that fools everybody and it makes them think that i'm always happy. I feel like i want to die. i can't tell anyone in here because nobody believes me.
My parents doesn't believe me until i show a proof, i have no real friends, everybody just use me as a spare, and i'm sick and tired of hearing someone else problems and in return those people that i've helped, didn't even appreciate it.

In the Bible it says that Jesus said to his followers they would do greater miracles then him. If its true that he rose from the dead (which is a pretty big miracle) why aren't we seeing even small miracles happen all the time? Like people being healed from arthritis, people with one leg shorter then the other having their legs grow, broken bones being mended on the spot/car crash victims getting up and walking away, the mentally ill regaining their sanity, etc. Why aren't Christians doing miracles?

As many answers from Christians please. It's your religion-you answer!!

Someone (a Christian) recently told me that children suffer because their parents aren't devout enough in their Christianity, & that no matter who suffers or how many suffer, Yahweh will not be "moved" by it... that he's only moved by faith, & only the faithful can attain for their children the blessings of God.

Is that true? Does "all the suffering in the WORLD" really not sway Yahweh in any way? Does He ONLY respond to faith? Are his hands tied when it comes to the children of all the non-Christians in existence?
