I'm looking for fresh ideas on how to unscare people from Christianity. Christians have given Christians a pretty bad name over the years. To most people I talk to, in person and on yahoo answers, they are repelled from Christianity b/c it is smashed in their faces. "Do you know where you are going when you die? There is a place called Hell! You're a sinner and you will burn in Hell forever if you don't accept Jesus Christ as your Lord" Good grief people.... come on!!!! We are scaring people away from Christianity. I don't think my chances are very high for changing the Christians who think this is the way to witness and I don't want to divide Christianity b/c I think that would cause even more damage... so I guess my question is: What can I and other Christians who agree with me do to unscare people and bring them back to a line of thinking that would let them consider Jesus as a part of their live. I mean, Jesus never shoved himself down anyone's throat when he was here on Earth.

Or is all this 'belief' a bunch of silly, half-hearted set of notions that doesn't sync with one's real feelings when it comes to actual behavior?

1. God LOVES you and offers a wonderful PLAN for your life.

"God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life" John 3:16.

Why is it that people are not experiencing the abundant life?

2. Man is SINFUL and SEPARATED from God. Therefore, he cannot know and experience God's love and plan for his life.

Man Is Sinful
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23.

3. Jesus Christ is God's ONLY provision for man's sin. Through Him you can know and experience God's love and plan for your life.

"God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" Romans 5:8.

4. We must individually RECEIVE Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; then we can know and experience God's love and plan for our lives.

"As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name" John 1:12

I recently read The Diary of Anne Frank and cried a lot thinking about how such a wonderful girl with such a bright future died so unjustly. My heart also breaks to think about all the other victims of the Holocaust. How could this be part of a greater good? Also, if you're a Christian that believes the only way to get into heaven is through Jesus, how could you believe Anne Frank could go to hell for being in the "wrong" religion?

Christians claim that God created us for a purpose -so we can believe in him, obey him and be saved. If this is so it is very difficult to explain why, each year, millions of foetuses
naturally abort, and millions of babies are born dead or die
within the first two years of their lives.Further, millions of people are born and live their whole lives with severe mental retardation, unable to think even the most simple thoughts. How do all these people fit into God's supposed plan? What purpose can God have in creating a new life and then letting it die even before it is born or soon after its birth? And what happens to all these beings?Do they go to heaven or hell?If God really created us with a plan in mind, that plan is certainly not very obvious. Also,as the majority of the world's people are non-Christian and as not even all Christians will be saved, this means that a good percentage of all the souls that God creates will go to hell.God's plan to to save everyone to have gone terribly wrong.

I have heard it said that 2 out of 3 posts on this board are against God and Christians. And that alone is just more reason to me that God is real. He said the world will hate you because they hated me first! I don't claim to live a perfect life because I am a Christian just as you don't live a perfect life by your personal morals (derived from the bible at any rate whether you like it or not). I don't shove my religion down your throat and i dont knock at your door. God is my Judge and I am not yours. Your are in a msg. board wanting to talk about it. I dont say that God is the only answer and that we dont need to educate ourselves. The more I look at science the more i realize how complex we are and how awsome my Creator is. Man cannot know all the answers...what is beyond the universe...actually think about it? And still you can be certain that there is no God because why would God cause pain on this earth? As I've said before, Is the difference between us and God greater than that of us and a bear? Then imagine a bear in a trap and a ranger who out of sympathy wants to liberate the bear. He tries to win the bears confidence but the bear will not give in. So he has to shoot the bear full of drugs. The bear, however thinks this is an attack and that the ranger is trying to harm him and doesn't realize its out of compassion. Then, in order to get the bear out of the trap he has to push the bear into the trap further to release the tension of the spring. Had the bear been conscious he would have been even more convinced that the ranger was out to hurt him. But the bear would be wrong because he is not a human and cannot fully understand. Likewise we are not God and cannot fully understand the things that happen to us on this earth, but even the greatest pains and the toughest cancers will not compare to the life to come if we place our trust in God.

(If you don't agree with the first part of this question, then you might just want to pass over this one entirely, but I have gotten this answer several times and I'd like some clarification from those answerers. Thanks.)

If god doesn't heal children with, say, leukemia because their intense pain and untimely death is part of a larger plan that God has for the world, then it seems like the important thing is the greater good, right?

In that case, do you as a Christian support stem cell research? A lot of Christians oppose stem cell research because a fetus is destroyed, but couldn't that fetus' untimely destruction also be a part of a larger plan for greater good? Isn't it possible that the scientists proposing stem cell research are doing so at the prompting of God?

then why didn't they know that Jesus wasn't from Nazareth, he was a Nazorean? How could eyewitnesses make such a bizarre mistake.

How could they mess up the name of Judas, when they would have known he was a Sicarii, instead of the bizarre and meaningless designation Iscariot?

Why did the early church have such difficulty with the name Mary Magdalene, that it took 19 century scholars to find a tiny, possibly nonexistent, first century village to claim as her birth place? They had to rename the village to make the connection with her appellation.

So how could eyewitnesses have been so ignorant of the cities of first century Judea, and the names of groups such as Nazoreans and Sicariii, if they were really there?
