My 14 year old nephew has been getting into trouble lately at school & at home, & we decided it might be a good idea for him to stay with us for a few days, to give him a little space & time to himself. Anyway, as I was walking by the spare bedroom he was staying in, I glanced in & saw he was lying on the bed, reading a bible. I was quite surprised that he was reading at all, let alone a bible. Now, the bible can be pretty difficult reading for anyone, especially the KJV, & especially for a 14 year old boy who doesn't know what's where. He's only been to church a few times , with a friend's family, when he was younger. Since he obviously has an interest, I would really like to find a book for him that gives a good basic overview of what's in the bible, & the basics of christian belief. And it should be age-appropriate & non-denominational. Any suggestions? Thank you & God bless.

I had heard that a child is born in original sin. The sin is washed off with holy water and after that only the child becomes a Christian. Once a belief existed that the child if died before baptism went to hell and not to heaven. Recently I attended a church baptism ceremony where the child was abused with physical cruelty. It was crying till end – a sign of Lucifer wriggling out to leave! After dipping in the water converted sacred through holy chanting the child was taken out in a moment with its legs up and head down for draining off the water. I was suffocating with anger. But I had no escape in a brain- washed crowd. Then the sexton doled out some model advices to the parents of the child. "For three days the child should not be handed over to those who belong to other religions and to non believers in Christianity too. When the baby is bathed, the water should be poured only in a place where people do not walk or misuse." Great advises! And we live in the 21st century!

and step in the Church with such a pride as if they are not aware of their calculatedly sculpted and dripping beauties! specially if they are all set to dance. These are the same ladies who'd tell us instantly whether we are going to Hell or Heaven!

Why can't they know Jesus is least interested in their swollen bodies?!

If you are a creationist, and that is just fine, i want to know why you reject evolution, and if you have at least 3 rational claims as why you are a creationist. And please dont just say because the bible says so. (and i'm not bashing the bible, it is a good book).

If it's my soul that has freewill, isn't my body just a receptacle for the soul which is what makes the sinful choices (from a Christian point of view). How is my flesh at war with God?

The original texts for the bible were written in Koine Greek by various authors after 45 AD and before 140 AD. These texts were gradually collected into a single volume over a period of several centuries. Why did it take so long to write down the words of God? Taking this long would only mean that people are trying to manipulate his words. Take Mark 16:9-20, Luke 22:19b-20,43-44, John 7:53-8:11, and 1 John 5:7b–8a for example. These are the newest additions (1990s) to the bible.

If the bible is really inspired by the words of God than why are there religious committees that decide which texts get to be placed in the bible? Why are there censors and debates for the words of God over the course of history? So how could anyone believe that the bible really contains the true words of God without filters?

I just saw the post on Pascal's Wager, which I am remotely familiar with, and my question is, have Atheists actually tried reading the Bible or looking into its accuracy? I heard Kelly and Brian Sapien claim they read the Bible, but then make ignorant statements about wearing polyester and eating shrimp - which would make them sinners. Anyone who really read the Bible wouldn't say that.
Two, the Bible cannot be compared to the Koran. Fulfilled prophesies and scientific facts. 1. Daniel's prophecy that the Messiah would be represented as King in 69 weeks of years(483 years total) after the command to rebuild Jerusalem, and then killed, which had to have been written 200 years before the event happened(this was when it was translated into Greek). 483 years later, Jesus made His triumphant entry and was murdered days later - just as was prophesied. Not to mention that history and science validate the Bible. Has anyone actually checked it out without bias?

If Allah can do anything, he can send us another final slave owning warlord prophet like Muhammad.

Only those who believe Allah is limited, and could not declare another prophet, could assert that its impossible for Allah to send us another warlord prophet.

If you say "Allah can, but he wont" then you play God, and should be beheaded. If you claim that Allah said in the Quran that he wouldnt send us another pedophilic slave owning warlord prophet then your essentially claiming that Allah is not powerful enough to do whatever he choses and must submitt himself to the Quran's rules.

All religion is of course false, but if your not educated enough yet to understand this, then the second best place to be is one of humility, which is to say, you acknowledge that you cannot be sure. All fundamentalists (absolutists) exercise the most extreme arrogance known to man...the claim that they know with absolute certainty everything there is to know (most Muslims are believe this way).

why do people say that the Church (Catholic to be more precise) thinks that sex is evil or bad??

i'm a Catholic Christian (yes those words can be used in the same sentence) and i was never taught that sex is evil. i've learned that misusing sex is evil, but sex itself is a good and holy act when done in an appropriate context, which is as a unitive act of marriage and when the couple are open to life....that's what MY church teaches!!!

it gets me kinda mad when people say that the church says otherwise. can somebody clarify these thoughts so that i may understand your perspective?

I hear some posters say what is happening to the planet is a natural process (Global Warming), OKAY- Has there ever been in a time in History that we could wipe out humanity? like we can with nuclear weapons? We can now..

Have we ever in the history of the world ever been as oil dependent as we are now?

Have we ever had a larger global poulation inhistory than we do now? and it's growing in numbers?

Has there ever been a time in history we can keep people alive longer than we can now? Who will take care of them? (Social Security will cease to exsist)and the Global Food Shortage we can look forward to.

Please answer how is humanity going to better the planet we live in?
