Sounds like some stupid Catholic ritual to me. If you ask me, rituals are retarded.
I read and believe in the Bible. I go to a Baptist church but I don't know their doctrine, I just follow my own. And for me Baptism is a symbolic ritual. Not required for salvation, leastwise in the sense of the waterness. The verses in the Bible which would support the idea that baptism is required for salvation are Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, and Acts 22:16. There might be more but I'm not sure. But since when can water forgive past deeds? Doesn't forgiveness only come from the offended party? Of course this is a matter of interpretation of the Bible, but this kind of belief about baptism seems to be contradictory to the Bible. The baptism of water, I believe, is merely a symbolic action which one performs to confess one's belief to others. Their belief that Jesus is God, God is real, and that God has forgiven them of their sins. Forgiven them of their sins through a holy baptism by the Holy Spirit. Verses which support this in the Bible are 1 Corinthians 12:13, Acts 19:5, Acts 11:16, Acts 1:5, Acts 2:38, and Acts 8:16.
All in all the religious and social relevance, I believe, is meant to be a symbolic ritual. Yet many believe that the act is what actually cleanses them of their sins.

I've never seen anyone baptize a child quite like that. That sounds more like the way they should be baptizing adults!
I got my baby baptized at a Methodist church, although I am not a Christian, because I feel like their little souls are very vulnerable in the first few years of life. Aside from the superstitious aspects, baptism is a way of introducing the child into the congregation. I grew up attending the particular church and know about everyone who goes there. Although I no longer attend, I knew if I got my daughter baptized, her grandfather would get really excited about taking her to church. As to your experience, I hope those are few, far between, and on their way out of the picture!

I only know about Catholic Baptisms, I don't know about other Christian Baptisms, but I have never seen a Catholic one like this. "When the baby is bathed, the water should be poured only in a place where people do not walk . . . " ? Never heard that before. And holding the baby upside down is child cruelty and is NOT practiced at all in proper Catholic Baptisms.
Please don't think all baptisms are like this.

I believe a baby is born innocent. i have never seen the above happen. Baptism is going into or under water to be born again. The water on babies is not scriptural. They need to read The new Testament.I have been a Christian most of my life and I find your story very believable but it is not excepted or proven by Biblical proof. I think ,with you ,it is child cruelty.

Well, if this is a serious question, here is a serious answer ...
Baptism should only be for those who have accepted the one & only true religion, have accepted Jehovah as God, Jesus as his son, have put behind them their past life, and are dedicated to do the will as God as Jesus did when he was on the earth. That they are ministers of God and will preach the good news of His kingdom to all who will listen. And the being baptized (being completely submerged in water, not just water trickled on them) is to die to their former life and be born to a new life as God's servant. Only anyone who is old enough to understand and do all of this (a baby or a young child cannot) should be baptized.

in the Exodus we see the Jewish people dealing with the crimson sea. that's a biblical sort for baptism additionally the flood the place Noah and his relatives have been saved yet advance right into a renewal of the international John a million:32 - whilst Jesus advance into baptized, He advance into baptized in the water and the Spirit, which descended upon Him in this sort of a dove. The Holy Spirit and water are required for baptism. additionally, Jesus’ baptism advance into no longer the Christian baptism He later instituted. Jesus’ baptism advance into rather a royal anointing of the Son of David (Jesus) conferred via a Levite (John the Baptist) to bare Christ to Israel, because it advance into foreshadowed in a million Kings a million:39 whilst the Son of David (Solomon) advance into anointed via the Levitical priest Zadok. See John a million:31; cf. Matt. 3:sixteen; Mark a million:9; Luke 3:21. Baptism is salvific this isn't any longer symbolic Matt. 28:19-20 - Jesus instructions the apostles to baptize anybody "in the call of the father, Son and Holy Spirit." Many Protestant church homes are actually coaching that baptism is barely a symbolic ritual, and not what actual cleanses us from unique sin. This perception contradicts Scripture and the two,000 3 hundred and sixty 5 days-old coaching of the Church. Acts 2:38 - Peter instructions them to repent and be baptized in the call of Jesus Christ with the intention to be actual forgiven of sin, no longer basically to partake of a symbolic ritual. Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 2:38 - there is no longer something in those passages or someplace else in the Bible approximately baptism being symbolic. there is likewise no longer something approximately in basic terms accepting Jesus as very own Lord and Savior with the intention to be saved. Mark sixteen:sixteen - Jesus suggested "He who believes AND is baptized would be saved." Jesus says believing isn't adequate. Baptism is likewise required. this is via fact baptism is salvific, no longer basically symbolic. The Greek textual content cloth additionally does no longer mandate any particular order for perception and baptism, so the verse proves no longer something a pair of “believer’s baptism.”

I must state that I do not know where you saw that type of baptism but not all religious sects who claim to be Christians truly are. Catholicism is not in any way Christianity. That being said Baptism is something that a person willfully chooses to do as an outward expression of their faith in Jesus Christ. In Christianity babies are not usually baptized but they are dedicated to the Lord which consist of the pastor anointing the baby with a little bit of oil on the forehead while they pray and for the child and ask God to have his way in the child's life, the parents are also prayed for and admonished to raise the child up in the ways of God. When a person becomes a Christian because God has somehow made his awesomeness known to them, the Bible instructs them to get Baptized. The Bible is the only authoritative word of God that we have. The Baptism is an outward expression of faith and trust in Jesus Christ for the believer to act upon, it shows to other's the belevers commitment to serve and obey God and the being immersed in water represents death with Christ (literally death to the old sinful ways of living) and the coming out of the water represents alive with Christ ( the new life as a child of God). Praise God!

It seems as if this was some sort of religious cult.Baptism is an outward symbol to the world that you have accepted Jesus as you savior. The going down into the water is the washing off of your sins, and the coming up is the clean body that is ready to live a Christian life.Don't go back to that church, they might just try to drown you too.

Christian baptism is contingent upon faith in Christ and as such does not apply to unbelieving infants. There is no "genetic salvation" in the Christian faith. Salvation is through faith in Christ, not by being born of Christian parents.
Those of an Augustinian theology, namely Catholics and Calvinists and the like, have been misled on this point.
To those who are coming to faith in Christ Peter commands, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." Acts 2:38
Baptism is a public acknowledgement of one's faith. Faith without works is dead. Believer's baptism is one application of faith.
I myself was baptized as a baby into the Catholic system of faith. But when I came to believe in Christ in accordance with the Bible, I got baptized as a believer.

you're referring to Catholic baptism.
baptism (non-Catholic) is the public symbol that you have died to sin (gone under the water) and have new birth in Christ (come up). this follows the Prayer and is preferably done right after the Prayer. you shouldn't be ashamed of following Christ
I don't believe in baptizing babies because Jesus said "believe and be baptized", not the other way around. and Catholics are cristened catholics and called that unless they convert to some other ideology. I don't adhere to the traditions of Holy Water and such. I believe in full emersion.
