In a rainbow, raindrops in the air act as tiny prisms. Light enters the raindrop, reflects off of the side of the drop and exits. In the process, it is broken into a spectrum just like it is in a triangular glass prism.

Thats the sum of a scientific explanation. Do you accept this or do you simply believe that "God did it"?

If you believe the scientific view then you are forced to accept that rainbows happen after every rainfall, therefore rainbows existed before "the flood". Ultimately saying that the scripture in the bible quoting god about rainbows being a "promise to never flood the world again" is not accurate.

And taking it one step further...Proves that the bible is just another primative writing of cavemen and overly active imaginations.

What does this statement mean? What faith is required? Is it more than a theist?

I have a friend who was raised Catholic but has grown very doubtful. She is very open-minded and has accepted many of the slanders and conspiracy theories that have been thrown around. She wants to know WHY the Church believes and does certain things; why she doesn't accept certain Gospels; other questions generated by movies like DaVinci Code and Stigmata, etc... questions I find hard to answer with my limited knowledge of my faith. Is there a good book, from an orthodox perspective, that adequately explains many of the 'stranger' or more misunderstood aspects of the Catholic faith? She's asking to read such a book and I'm sure one exists. Thanks!

I figure we can start with torture racks and iron maidens for unbelieving men, and hot fire pokers for ladies who study herbal medicine. And Pat Robertson 24/7 on everyone's TV. Hallelujah!

Ok, I am joking, I am not a Christian. I was trying to come up with a Christian horror story for a short novel. Good start?

Read the following statement:

'Dawkins talking about memes is like believers talking about God - an invisible, unverifiable postulate, which helps explain some things about experience, but ultimately lies beyond empirical investigation.'

Dawkins is a religious zealot promolgating theory as fact and expressing his own brand of religion - it's called atheism.

Only a person who is totally subjective could deny this well researched and objective examination of Dawkins.

I know, it's not scriptural, but God would certainly be just in doing so. I look at the terribly blasphemous posts on here, and the state of our world, and though I am a Christian, I think we all deserve death. Every last one of us, no special treatment. How sweet would that be? And considering that true Christians all have attained eternity with Christ, what's the problem? I know, it seems the easy way out, but in addition to being impropable it's also the reason why the apostle Paul wrote, "I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know!" Phillipians 1:20-22

Do Christians believe JESUS is the GOD of the Old Testament?

The Trinity contends that all three parts of God are one without any separation between them otherwise it would be proven to be polytheism.

Therefore, according to Christianity the God of the Old Testament is Jesus.

If you say yes, then you cannot ever deny that he sent the commandments written in the Old Testament.

Someone can say they don’t follow them anymore…ok…. But if they ever deny that he made these commands then JESUS was not the GOD of the Old Testament.

Here is one command JESUS sent down:

"If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, 21: but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.” ---- Exodus 21:20-21

If a Christian denies it was ever sent down by Jesus then either Jesus is not their God or they don’t believe that the Bible is the word of God.

Whether these are still enforced or whether these were sent millenniums ago…… are not the question.

The eye opener is that Christians cannot deny that according to their faith Jesus sent this command down.

Maybe enslaved men can handle a beating but fragile women would be in pain beyond imagination.

The point being made is not that Christians no longer follow the old law….the point is that if JESUS is the God of the OT then he said this about WOMEN.

I really wanna see this apology, I think it will be something like.

"I am sorry you are a sappy-headed Mo'."

"Mormons only want an apology from me because they are a predominantly white culture and I am black. I am sorry you are racists. May god forgive you of your ignorance."

what do you people think?

I'm Christian (Roman Catholic) and I'm not questioning the validity of being such...

It is the case that I've got a book written by Hans Küng, translated into Portuguese, which looks for answering such question.

I did not read it yet. So, how and what would you, American Christians, answer to that?

Tnx!

Aethists are constantly asking for scientific proof that God or Allah exists. Personally, I would like for them to scientifically, prove that He doesn't.

I realize that since it is logically impossible to prove a negative tht you have your work cut out for you. But please, give it your best shot.

Bear in mind that I am looking for scientific evidence, not personal opinion. I am not looking for "I have cancer and a good God wouldn't do that to me, so He can't exist." That is an emotional opinion based on your anger at the percieved unfairness of you having cancer and has nothing to do with scientific evidence.

I go every week with my daughter and listen to mass, my children come first in life so what ever makes them happy and at peace i will do.My daughter is going to lose out on her faith has i am going to have to find a new church which accepts my son,i cant be two places at once and also why should i take him into a place where they wont accept him for who he is and not for who i am. My son is 7years old and knows what he wants and i think its wrong to turn him away from church,i have always thought that every one is welcome in to a church

I wonder if it's cool like "Tiberius". Nah.

Of course, even if it is, Jesus could never ultimately compare with Captain James T. Kirk...he had the chicks, the power, and even went beyond the great barrier and met God, and wasn't even impressed!

Why not remove the testimony that lots of people saw him resurrected and simply state that it happened? Wouldn't that require more faith?

I go to a rural public school in central Texas and about 95% is Christian. We often have conversations about religion where the teacher gets involved and says things like! "One day you will understand the leasons of the bible", "Why don't you believe in god?" "What church do you go to?", "I think if you give Jesus a chance you would love him", and "What's your favourite part of the bible, David?"

We also had a fake funeral to teach us the leasons of drunk driving and after we were done we all stood up and prayed to "Jesus Christ" for our safety on prom night.. mind you this was not apart of the fake funeral..

Also, in theatre they always get together and pray before a play! (of course I get stared at for saying im not comfterble with it)

Is this illegal and can I sew the school?
