I'm Christian (Roman Catholic) and I'm not questioning the validity of being such...

It is the case that I've got a book written by Hans Küng, translated into Portuguese, which looks for answering such question.

I did not read it yet. So, how and what would you, American Christians, answer to that?

Tnx!

It's not a matter of religious name that makes you a christian. It's loving Jesus and believing that He is the true son of the living God. I'm still a Christian today becuase I love the Lord with all my heart and believe Jesus to be the true son of the Living God and I want to make Heaven my home therefore i'll do everything in my power to serve Him to the best of my ability. I'm looking for the end result!

IE,
I would say to you that I am a Christian for the same reason that the First Century Christians became Christians, because CHRIST was GOD's SON. HE came to earth of a virgin birth, fulfilled all of the Old Testament Prophesies of the Messiah, preached/taught in the Jewish Temples, was brutally tortured and murdered on the Roman Cross, arose from the dead, walked among men, sent HIS Apostloes out, and was taken into Heaven. HE died for our sins so that we would have an opportunity to be in Heaven with HE and the FATHER when the time comes. We have an obligation to read, study, and obey the New Testament scriptures and worship GOD as the First Century Christians did. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds, Christian

I am a Christian because I need God in my life! I too am Roman Catholic and tried to live outside of the Church for a while and found myself to be pretty miserable and without purpose. When I returned to my Faith and began to live a Christian life, including frequenting the Sacraments, everything changed. I am filled with peace and joy, always, except for when I forget about God's love.

I would suspect-that if you were Roman Catholic and lived in Latin or South America, that you may 'possibly' (maybe???) have so much Paganism intertwined with your catholicism that you may not really "know" what true Christianity was.
No offense intended here, but you very well may already be confused. I would not worry about Kung until I had a real grip on Christ first.

Much faith is tradition passed down from one generation to the next. If you are raised in a faith, you aren't likely to question its truth. Or at least not so much in the past. Many people are Christian as they are just about any other faith, because they were raised that way. Its what they were taught and what they believe. All though I have read that people are leaving Christianity is record numbers. I am not sure how correct that is though.

Christianity was created to be the manager of the slaves of the Roman Empire and guard the wealth of the aristocracy. Well, the aristocracy is no more, and outright slavery is mostly gone, but the church goes right on trying to protect wealth and repress the poor. Perhaps it is trying to re-create an aristocracy and re-establish human slavery so it will again have a real purpose.

If you claim you are a Christian, then nothing should direct your attention to anything that will create questions or doubts to your faith. Reading other books authored by non-believers, radicals, fanatics, or what not will undoubtedly lead you to look for faults in your church and begin to waiver. "Stand up, stand up for Jesus."
