I know it doesn't matter to some but to others like me, it is pretty cool. Like on me and my wife's anniversary this year it was, 5 6 7. But 777! You Brothers and Sisters in Christ tell me why.

It's Mother's Day. This is for the many women here who have touched my life in so many ways:

To the women on my journey
Who showed me the ways to go and ways not to go,
Whose strength and compassion
Held up a torch of light and beckoned me to follow...

To the women on my journey
Who showed me how to live and not to live,
Whose grace, success and gratitude
Lifted me into the fullness of surrender to God...

To the women on my journey
Who showed me what I am and what I am not,
Whose love, encouragement and confidence
Held me tenderly and nudged me gently...

To these woman I say bless you and thank you
From the depths of my heart
For I have been healed and set free
Through your joy and through your sacrifice.

-Rev. Melissa M. Gowers (adapted)

And of course, I sent this to my mother too. I live in a different country so personally thanking her will have to wait until I can see her in person... What did you do for your mom today?

I've heard the word tossed around alot, and I don't think it's a relevent word anymore. There was a day, when people believed just about everything in print, because printed words were rare.

I think this ambiguity is the source of much confusion in discussions about the Bible, and other sacred texts.

It seems like it is rare. I was a christian for 21 years, really and truly I was. Then one day I was standing on a ship looking at the ocean at night, and I started wondering (just wondering mind you) how things in the bible were possible. I didn't want to (and I imagined God's face looking over my shoulder frowning) but I forced myself to question some things. It was hard at first to question, it felt really wrong, but then just a few minutes later it was like- POOF- and God's face disappeared, my mind opened up, I felt like a veil was being lifted.
It was like someone had snapped his or her fingers, really it was like I was hypnotised the whole time. Suddenly it all became clear to me, very very clear. I can't even read the bible for five minutes now without kicking myself in the head.

So my question is, how rare is that? When it happened to me it felt like a one and a million thing had occured.

I'm wondering if being right or left handed has anything to do with religion. Are religious people more likely to be right or left handed? Or does it matter? Plus I'm bored.

I'm an atheist and I'm left handed.

The Spanish Conquistadores used to baptize Incan children then immediately bash their brains out to insure the child would go to heaven. Since the odds are very long indeed of an individual becoming a Christian, or at least the right denomination to get him into heaven, haven't you done the embryo a favor by killing him? Christians believe that earth is just a test that has to be taken to get to heaven. What's wrong with helping someone skip the test?

Last week PBS ran a show about the Mormons that included a segment about Blacks. Of course they said they had a revelation that 'now' (1978) it was time to include Blacks. But wasn't there a decision about a discrimination case in the 10th district court in Denver that was about to be released? I believe it involved the NAACP, LDS and Boy Scouts of
America.

The Roman Catholic Catechism is very clear that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are not equal. Why do people think that "the Father is in the Son and the Son is in the Father but they are not the same" translates into "Jesus is God"? Was the shamrock metaphor misleading? Is an egg a better metaphor?

Modern science has replaced most of the early reasons for faith, i.e., desperation in the face of diseases that had no cures, fear of death from those diseases, the lack of an explanation for how we got here, no real knowledge of the nature of the universe.

Science and medicine have addressed all of these issues and much more thoroughly than Jesus ever did with his phony faith healing and nonsense about resurrection and demons.

If he had any real knowledge he would have explained that illness isn't caused by demons.

How much longer can the mindless religious drones fly in the face of reality before their numbers dwindle?

Or is it just that there will always be uneducated simpletons who need to have their money taken from them by con men masquerading as servants of God(s)?

Babies don't think about it, and they are saved because they are not accountable. Developmentally deficient adults aren't actively thinking about it, and they're saved because they are not accountable. Those that have never heard about Christ don't think about it and they are not accountable. So why not atheists? Why would they be excluded from heaven if they are not actively denying Christ at the time of death?

Or does entrance into Heaven depend on the last time you consciously thought about it?

Why do people call Jesus God when the Bible is clear that he became sin on the cross? Why do people think that God would have become sin? Why do they ignore that the Bible says "there is no darkness in God"? Isn't it obvious that Jesus was the "unblemished Lamb of God"? How can the Lamb of God be God? How can the sacrifice be God?
