Why don't western women wear veils?

Simply because Western women understand the value of facial contact, the way that emotions can pass between people when the face is open and of course the beauty of a smile that would otherwise be denied. Wear a veil and you miss laughter in the eyes and mouth, the transference of expression that shows emotional thought and the look that simply instils warmth and trust. I am sorry but to me the veil is ugly in its very nature, hides everything a woman is supposed to be and simply leaves an air of the unknown. I think that the veil is demeaning to women and illustrates just how subserviant they are meant to be.

I suspect it is because they want to be recognized when they walk down the street, rather than anonymous. But realistically, it is mostly because that has not been the style.

There were veils -- little wispy things made of net you could see through easily -- on many hats back in the 1940s and 1950s. My mother had veils on some of her hats.

The only use of veils in more recent times has been for a widow at a funeral. There you don't have any problem recognizing her, but she can hide how awful her face looks due to all that crying. Or, on the other hand, she can avoid the comments about her NOT looking like she is grieving. A lady who is too composed at her husband's funeral might be suspected of not loving him enough, rather than the fact that she has dignity and keeps her grief private. Avoid the question by wearing a black veil.

I guess its due to religion and beliefs. Western women can be as beautiful as anybody else in the world.

However , I must say veil does invoke a cuiocity and imagination , which might make an ugly face look like the most beautiful face on earth, as some people say .... beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

In the West People are free from North America To South America to wear what ever women want and no one from the East will ever force our women to cover their faces. Thats why all of our countries defeated and won our independence from the East. Libertad thats Spanish for Freedom or Liberty.

They do sometimes but they are generally see thru, the bride wears a veil over her face and some wear it as part of head dress.

I always thought women in the middle east having to wear veils was just another oppression forced on them by their husbands. Another way for them to treat women like objects.

Why the hell would I want to cover my head and most of my face up? Don't those women do any work? I can't try to keep something balanced on top of my head while I do housework, care for my child,
clean the litter box, mop the floors, etc.
Thats completely unpractical and ridiculous.
What American women should cover up are those boobs they have hanging out of their
tops. A woman should dress with decency
not like a damn whore. If a woman wants to look sexy, do it in the bedroom with your husband, not have it all hang out when you go to the grocery store. Its disgusting.
But a veil? No, not practical at all.
