Given how many pick and choose between all the verses of scripture what they will believe and what they will reject, it seems a reasonable question about modern "christianity".

First Amendment - Guarantees freedom of worship in direct violation of the First Commandment.

Third and Forth Amendments - Directly violate the commandments of Jesus to give unto those that ask and to walk two miles if asked to walk one.

Fifth through Ninth Amendments - violate the legal processes set forth by God in the Old Testament.

Tenth Amendment - discusses the idea of human rights, a concept not found in the Bible.

Thirteenth Amendment - abolishes slavery, an institution created by and supported by the God of the Bible.

Fourteenth Amendment - more talk of human rights, a concept alien to the Bible.

Fifteenth and Nineteenth Amendments - Any can vote, including women, a concept not supported by the Bible. Voting itself is not supported by the Bible.

There are more, but these are the most flagrant violations of Biblical Law.

How do the "America is a Christian Country" types view this?

The only one you people ever passed was Prohibition, and that was a disaster.

I was wondering because my family always went to Church of God. I haven't been in a long time. Anyways-These two very nice ladys keep coming to my house and telling me about god and today they asked me if i want to do a bible study with them. I told them I would like to talk to one of my aunts first and Now they are coming back soon to talk to me. I asked them what the diffrence was between the two and they said I have to see for myself. They also said that Jehovah Witness's are telling about God's words, not what he supposedly said to the people. I don't know. I don't want to turn these people away from my door, but I don't think I am ready to live this way yet. I may sound selfish, but I know me better than anyone else and I don't want to be a hippocrite and go to church and them come home and live how I am living now. I am not a bad person, but I know that I am not living a "Christian lifestyle." Please tell me the diffrence between these to religions anyway. Thank you.

did you know that in united states a man CEO gets paid more that a woman CEO. Its so unfair. Even in christianity in the bible they talk about great men, man came first in the world and all those stupid stuff. I bet that da vinvi code might be true. jesus himself said that he came as a pure man so that he can understand the feelings and emotions of a normal man. well a normal man would love a person and get married. I really wish hillary gets elected. Even though the fights of woman wanting equal rights are over it still exists in some religions and other countries of the world like India and some other countries. It really depressing. don't you think?

This is known as "god of the gaps." For a long time people believed that earthquakes, tsunamis, tornadoes, lightning, etc. were their fault. That their actions caused god to become angry and cause these devastating natural effects.

We know better than that now. We understand how our environment works and no longer believe that god causes them. However we still don't know how the universe began. Continuing in the tradition of our even more ignorant ancestors we still stuff god into any space we can, any crevice that knowledge doesn't currently fill is left open to the god excuse.

What's wrong with just saying "i don't know 'X,' but I'd really like to find out?"

I've heard that the Mormon religion prays for the "before-Jesus" souls in the hope that they will be spared from Hell...

What do you all believe?

What's the plan after we fly the white flag?

Do we trade land for peace? Should we give the eastern seaboard to Al Queda? Perhaps the left coast?

Maybe this could be a good thing!

What's YOUR plan? What would Hillary do? What would the clean muslim black liberal candidate do?

Please no communist slogans or Bush bashing. Tell me what the plan should be following our surrender.

Should we all become muslims and pass out Burkas and Korans?

Should we legislate Sharia law? Kick all the girls out of school? Burn all hog farms?

What?

Are there any Christian Jews out there? I am very interested in this whole idea. I don't have a "religion" but I am a New Testament Born Again Christian. I have always thought I would like to have a religion. Being Jewish sounds good to me. Jesus was a Jew. If it is good enough for Him it is good enough for me! How do you do it - I mean - become a Christian Jew.

christians are constantly pointing out that there's no reason for atheists to be moral, where as there ARE reasons for christians to be moral (e.g. - to go to heaven, to avoid hell, because some book says so, etc).

but the truth of the matter is that atheists are every bit as moral as christians (actually, probably more so - cf. 10% of society are atheists vs. only 1% of prisoners are atheists) despite not being deterred by threats or bribed with rewards.

so doesn't this mean that atheists are actually better people than christians because we're naturally moral where as christians needed to be instructed??

I Timothy 2:11
"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

What could we learn from them if they were permitted to ask and answer questions?

Or does the above quote suggest God doesn't think christian women have much to contribute when it comes to teaching men?

Is this why the Catholic church doesn't allow women to be priests, because they wouldn't be allowed to speak in church?

I Corinthians 14:34-35
"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
"And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church."

1 Corinthians 14:37
"If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the thinbgs I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord."

Belief in evolution despite the lack of evidence, and holes in the theory, or the belief that Jesus is God, when he was clearly a Prophet that prayed to God in the Bible.

Which belief is more outrageous?

Isn't an obelisk a pagan symbol?

Look I have nothing against aetheists. They can live a much more moral life than some people who belong to religious denominations. I just hate how you say science is on your side alone and everyone who believes in God is insipid. But Science can also back up that their is a God.
1.) Science has proven to us that there is no such thing as a 100% chance of something. If there is a 99% chance there is no God, by the same token, their is a 1% chance there is. And vice versa.
2.) If we evolved from the evolutionary branch as apes (and I do believe in mitigated evolution), where did they come from. If you go back far enough in the history of the earth, things had to start somewhere, but how? Huh?

Best I can tell humans haven't changed much in the last seven thousand years, in ways we're still savages.

Has there ever been a world that one could say was anything like heaven? Do you see any chance of it in the near future?

If it's our destiny in the bible and I'd like to think everyone would like to live in a utopia, why not try?
