I Timothy 2:11
"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

What could we learn from them if they were permitted to ask and answer questions?

Or does the above quote suggest God doesn't think christian women have much to contribute when it comes to teaching men?

Is this why the Catholic church doesn't allow women to be priests, because they wouldn't be allowed to speak in church?

I Corinthians 14:34-35
"Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
"And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church."

1 Corinthians 14:37
"If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the thinbgs I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord."

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but Timothy and Corinthians are -both- New Testament books.

Such a pity no christian women are able to answer this question. I had so much hoped to learn more ;-)

They are permitted to teach in my Church. In the Catholic Church lay women can do everything lay men can do, without exception.

Orion,
It is important to remember, 1 Corinthians 14:37
"If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord." Keep yourself as pure as possible. GOD makes the decisions and we are to abide by them. All things have reason. HE is the one who sent CHRIST and HE will send HIM again at the Judgment. We await that time. Please think about your question. I believe that we learn things from one another each and every day. I have learned a great deal from our Elder's Wives just by watching them live GODLY Lives. They are wwonderful women of GOD and I thank HIM each and every day that I live. Have a wonderful LORD's DAY!
Thanks,
Eds, Christian

We could learn a lot. My sister is a minister in a church that does allow it but many don't.

She wrote her college thesis on this subject.

Remember that the New Testament supercedes the Old Testament.
What did Jesus say on the subject.

Today's lesson is Music theory! Have a seat at the piano with me. The keys that are next to each other are a half step (or half tone) apart. If you start on C (points to middle C) and skip a key, you have a whole tone or whole step. These two intervals make up the scales we use in Western Music.

You cannot choose and collect words from The Bible to proove a certain point! If you were a Christian, than you'll understand the real meaning of what God is trying to tell you through The Bible. Ask a priest and he'll explain that to you.

I feel sorry for your wife & daughters. What religion are you? What about Mother Theresa? I think we can learn a lot from her. You are just a egomaniac who wants to dominate women. You have a problem. Are you teaching that little boy about silencing women? If you are, shame on you.

And a note to Sexy whatever. Put some dam* clothes on. You are grossing me out. It's not cool. You look like an idiot.

Just goes to show you have to have some sort of knowledge about the Bible... sheesh. Okay, when Paul wrote this it was because the women were standing up and being bitches in the church services. Thats why they shouldn't talk, only if they're going to be saying stupid things and taking up the church's time with their gabbing.

I hate it when Christians missinterpret the Bible and sometimes cause a lot of missunderstandings.

But I love it when people do it to criticise christianity and pretend they know what they're talking about. Its funny

It is a miss-understanding. Our sisters preach and teach, but non hold office as do the brothers. we have full time pioneers who devote their lives to God's work. Both brothers, and sisters. Note the JW's walking in your neighborhood.

same question, different 'title' and same useless repetition of scripture taken out of context.

since you are not christian, you will not understand scripture to the full extent you could if the Holy Spirit was guiding you. and pulling a sentence here and there to promote your intolerance of women and them speaking out for Jesus, is lame and a poor attempt at belittling Christians.

I know a man like you in our church, and pray for his new wife daily!
