I think there is a God but I don't think there is anyway to prove it. Nor do I feel a need to prove it.

My concern in genuine in that I have been a Christian my whole life, but upon a lot of reflection I am slowly coming to conclusions that have me believing less and less in the Christian version of God. I do believe in a higher power, but I find it harder and harder to rationally come to the same conclusions that Christians come to.

One big issue I have is the basis that the Christian God puts more emphasis on belief than good actions. Specifically, a good person who does not believe in God is supposed to be condemned to hell for all eternity, yet a bad person can repent at the end of their life and as long as they believe in God and Jesus they are accepted. This system of judgment seems perverse.

Secondly, is it not more moral to help a person out of genuine concern rather than feeling that God wants you to help, or even worse that not doing so would condemn you to hell. Those spurred into action only as a result of fear truly are not unselfish. The is conflicting to me.

When you think about it, Atheists and Christians are aligned in their dismissal of all god of all religions, the only difference being that atheists dismiss just one more god.

If Christians and atheists are aligned in their views in regards to so many religions, are their means of conclusions really that different? What is is about atheists (or Christians for that matter) that make them sway relative to the Christian god?

She told me the issue was that she is not a virgin. And I don't think that's such a big deal. I've told her to relax, but she's freaked. I don't get it.

2007-05-10 18:31:45 · 9 answers · asked by Anonymous

why can't they understand that there are other religions out there, with their own beliefs? can't they be more open and accept the fact that as "free" individuals we are, there's going to be [no matter what] a variety of religions out there. Why do they have to think they know the one and ultimate truth [when it's not, to us at least]?

I asked in another thread why ya'll are so nice to us pagans.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aj6AC.bIbuujCzc_WBSFgtDsy6IX?qid=20070510215342AAMOIWh

Most self-proclaimed atheists responded that it was because we pagans didn't try to convert you or threaten you will hell, but one non-atheists had this to say:

"I dunno, maybe cause misery loves company? You know if you asked them straight out most Atheists would tell you that you are nuts for following Wicca."

Well, I am nothing if not fair-minded, so I'll put it to the test and ask you all straight out: Atheists, do you think I'm nuts for following Wicca?

And no sneaky pretend-atheists answering. We can check your Q&A history, you know, and it just makes your religion look snarky. ;)

Let the answers.... BEGIN! :)

there are two things people have to know:

Abortion will never stop, it's been going on for centuries and as long as humanity exists it won't end.

Abortion will always be considered taboo and horrible.

How can we as people, of many diffrent backgrounds and religion or non-religious come to an agreement on how to deal with abortions rather then make it illegal. WE can't make it illegal because of how many abortions would happen underground and in dangerous situations.

IMO we should educate children in middle and highschool in the U.S and all around the world about safe sex to dramatically reduce the use of abortions.

You personally may not like abortions, but this is not about you. this is about freedom of choice, the mother and HER fetus.

Why would anyone bother denying the Holy Spirit? It is my personal opinion that by doing so, an atheist is being just as close minded as they might say a Christian is - by denying the mere possibility of God existing is pretty close minded if you ask me. And, you don't get a second chance after you announce it.

I'm not trying to start any arguments. I'm just saying ... why not play on the safe side? ;)

I have heard pastors say this, and when they do I think to myself, as soon as you love someone he/she is not able to be your enemy. In order for someone to be your enemy you cannot love that person. Its like saying that I want to listen to the radio but at the same time lower the volume or completely cutting off the power supply. What do you think?
