There have been many claims that the Bible borrowed from Egyptian mythology and pagan sources for the story of the resurrection of Christ. I contend that truth need not fear probing, so I encourage you to check both of the resources shown below, then weigh in on the case each has made.

Here is a source critical of the claim that Christianity borrowed from the myth of Horus:
http://www.frontline-apologetics.com/resurrection_of_osiris_.htm

And here is a source which supports that claim:
http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_jcpa.htm

What is the truth you were able to glean from the research?

This is a genuine question, so genuine answers please. I'm curious about how your experience was or continues to be...good, bad, no big deal, etc. Witches are very nice. I am a very nice person and my Christian neighbors are very nice people too.

Most of our present day Christian preachers teach against the Law, Prophets and most important Jesus Himself. By making statements such as, "we don't have to keep that old law its been nailed to the cross." These preachers use the books of Paul to make that statement. If that were true, that would mean no one would be able to sin. Why? Because if there is no law there is no sin. Sin is not imputed or no blame can be accredited to any person when there is no law. But, in I John 3:4 it states, "whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." So if the law was nailed to the cross that would mean its okay to use the Lords name in vain, put other gods before HIM, make graven images and bow before them, pollute the Sabbath day, steal, commit murder, commit adultery and bear false witness. If all these things are okay to commit, then we might as well throw the Bible out the back door and do what ever feels good to us.

I just dont understand. All my life i grew up going to church and being religious. I won't say that I am not religious because I have a great relationship with God. But I have not been to church in a long time. My mother trys to make me feel bad, but i just don't want to surround myself with those people. Not all are like this but alot are and I cannot stand it. They are so quick to tell everyone else what their sins are when they really need to concentrate on their own sins. Nobody is perfect, and I am not about to tell somebody else they need to repent for something, that is not my business. Its between them and God. Does anybody know what I am talking about? I just feel so confused.

If it was generally accepted that an afterlife did not exist, would the same people still work these same jobs, or would they be more motivated to go further in life? In other words, would it make people care more about what they accomplished in this life?

This is a serious question.

I've read other Christians explain this story, and I'm interested in how JWs understand this. Is there anything on the Watchtower website about it?

I was reminded of the account because it happens right after Elijah goes up in the windstorm.

If the Jehovah's Witnesses are the only true witnesses for God, and if the Jehovah's Witnesses as an organization came into being in the late nineteenth century, does this mean God was without a witness for over eighteen centuries of church history?

"Our own religion is what life has taught us" William R. Inge

Made me think right away, according to this quote, if Atheists have no religion, then they must have learned nothing in life.

"Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven"

I always used to think this meant Elijah died and went to heaven, but Jehovah's Witnesses showed me the bible. The bible shows that years later, Elijah was still alive!

Here Jehoshaphat is still alive when Elijah went up in the windstorm:
(2 Kings 2:11; 3:11 KJV) Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. ...But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by, him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha

Here Elijah writes to Jehoshaphat's son (Jehoshaphat was dead). So Elijah was alive after Jehoshaphat died, meaning Elijah must not have died and gone to heaven in that windstorm
(2 Chron 21:1,12) Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried...And there came a writing to [Jehoshaphat's son Jehoram] from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father

Explain

I am a junior in high school. The past two days, my auto repair teacher has been out. In his place we got a crazy substitute who is a Jehovah's Witness. Normally I don't like these people, or any radical religious group, but she seemed okay. That was until she told us about her views on politics. She had the crazy idea that her religion was its own "government", and she was not a citizen of the U.S. (even though she was born here). I asked her how that made sense, since she must pay taxes. She claimed that her "government" said that their people should pay taxes to the U.S.
So according to her, she can have her own government, one that can tell the citizens whether or not they can pay taxes and follow the laws. Does this make any sense at all? When you're born in this country, you're a citizen, you pay taxes not because your religion tells you to but because the government says you have to....... Am I wrong??? no.

Given that time is measured relative to the rotation of the earth around its axis, on a daily basis, or about the sun, on an annual basis, which came first: the 7 days of creation, at 24 hours each presumably, or the time frame in which the creation could occur?

If the latter, did God create the timeframe before creating everything else, and if so, where was it once he had created it, and by reference to what did it exist? Was he just passing time until he came up with The Great Idea we all here and now so, obviously, enjoy?

There’s no secret handshake, bizarre rituals or oaths of allegiance that you have to perform to become an Atheist. All that’s required is to open your minds to logic.

There is absolutely no evidence to prove that what a Hindu, Muslim or Mormon believes is true, just like there is no evidence to prove that what a Christian believes is true, yet each religion claims that only they are right. Clearly, logic dictates that what each religion believes cannot be true. Anyone who claims otherwise is denying logic.

Remember folks, Atheism is really just; A (freedom from) theism.

1)We have to invest money and resources.

2)We might fail in what we do.

3) People might not support us .

4) We don't know what to start.

5) We don't have money to waste

6) Other people who are already established might take over once we succeed.

7) I might lose my job.

8) I don't have the expertise that the established people already have.

9) I don't know whether people will buy what I sell.

10 )There is competition

11 )People are jealous.

Can you answer it from word of God (Bible) perspective.

If you have already, or were to ever leave the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which would you join next and why? Or would you join any? Please give reasons why you chose or would choose what you did.

Personally, if I ever left, there would be nothing else for me. I KNOW this church is the true church, if I fell away, I would still know in my heart the church was true and so I would not be able to affiliate my self with anything else.

In the twenties thru the fifties, news was delivered in a way that got information across and made you feel upbeat and happy at the same time. There was a nearly constant surge of pride to be had every time the media announced something of importance. This consistant form of medium held a vital part of improving morale in the United States, (corny as it, admittably was).

Why have we, as a culture, turned to imparting a sense of doom and dread to nearly ever story that invades our eyes and ears? It seems that love for our country is almost lost on my generation, (23 years old BTW), and is being replaced with a neurotic and weak stance on most every issue.

Why have we gone down this road of self-hate and disapproval of our own society?
