In terms of the Roman Catholic priesthood, lifting the celibacy ban would likely help. However, that's not likely to happen any time soon. So barring that, promoting seminary enrollment as a promising option for a young person's career would help, rather than barely mentioning it as an option at all. There are many young people who don't really know anything about entering the priesthood. Even if they want to be priests, it's possible that they feel uncomfortable talking about it openly, or don't know where to begin. It's not presented as an option often enough, even within churches.

There is no easy solution. It is symptomatic of a loss of faith in the West. We have the same problem in the Orthodox Church. Sadly we'll have to weather hard times before it starts to swing back around the other way just like when we get the cold we simply ride it out. If there were an easy solution, I'd love it, but there isn't one.

Women priest is the first one. After that, do what the Orthodox do and allow men that are already married to become priest. If the wife dies, they can not remarry. The Orthodox do it this way because Peter was married when Jesus called him.

tell them to not make promises they can't keep. you don't need to be a priest to get into heaven. develop a one on one relationship with God instead of the catholic rules and laws and other manmade crap.

...but that's a good thing. Why would you want people to devote their lives to telling lies?
