Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

John the Baptist also wanted proof. Let's not even talk about Judas - he sold his soul for some silver, no one would do that in their right mind after seeing Jesus in person.

These are things you are born with or develop at a very young age and they can't be treated. Physical disabilities don't affect who you are as a person and a soul.

There is plenty of opinions on the bible as the holy book. That is not my concern here.

My question is, do you think the bible can be read as a piece of literature? Can we erase the "holy" image and grab whatever meaning we find useful to our lives like any other classic? Many of Socrate's/Plato's writings have many holes in them but we still consider them influential.

However, I do note that if we would also have to read other religious books as literature also as to not promote bias.

What do you think?

This is how many babies are killed per year by abortion: 1.37 million. That’s 1,370,000.

114,166 per month

26,346 per week

3,753 per day

156 per hour

2.61 per minute

It took me about 10 minutes to write this question. In that time, approximately 26 babies were murdered.

If it took you 2 minutes to read this, another 5 have died. That’s 31 babies so far.

The clock on my wall is still ticking.

If you say "to protect the soft skin underneath" then please tell me why God created a spot of soft skin for no reason that needed covering. Plus, the skin gets hard soon after the nail is removed - trust me I've had one fall off after a monitor fell on it.

My entire life growing up, I was lead to believe that you go to Heaven when you die if you believe and are saved. Whatever spin and additions to that you may require, that's the gist of the Christian faith.

I was recently at a funeral for a loved one, and the pastor that spoke gave a very different account. My uncle died after a long battle with cancer, and was quite religious. This man, his pastor, shocked me when he said that my uncle was not in Heaven with Christ. To the point where I almost walked out...

Thinking about it after the fact, it really causes concern for something that I have held belief in my entire life. The Bible does not say we go to Heaven when we die.

Ecc. 9:5
For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.

So all of that "he's in a better place" crap is just garbage?

Discuss.

Matthew 7 (Jesus speaking to the Pharisees)
9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Romans 2-
13For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.)

I'm not asking for yes or no answers, I am asking that people read the quote below, and let me know if (and how) it speaks to you.

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the 'Universe,' a part limited in time and space. He exeriences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassioon to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
