If I don't believe in God, then I don't believe in Hell either. So telling me I'm going to Hell for not believing in God doesn't mean anything to me.

However, if I believe in God, then I believe in Hell, and believing in God means I'm not going to Hell.

So what purpose does the existence of Hell serve? It doesn't scare the non-believer into believing, and it is not a threat for the believer either.

Seems the only purpose Hell serves is to reassure the believers that non-believers will suffer.

Who do you think God is trying to scare by telling us about Hell?

If JC went to a taven and kept asking for water do you think the bartender would kick him out for tranforming the water into what he really wanted?

Many religions speak of a "Middle Path".

What does this mean, and how does it apply in practice, do you think?

What are the things that need 'balancing'?

Is it automatic? Or do we need to exert conscious efforts?

Should we just 'let it be'? Will things work out just fine?

Or should we exert; and if so how?

What are your views?

This one niggles at me from time to time.

Would be glad to hear what you have to say on it.

Have read a fair bit, but at present, they're just ideas, largely.

I beleive my religion (Islam) is correct because of the Quran and the Diversity of Islam. I never learned about a religion that encouraged its followers to learn about other religions and to see if it is better than there own.

I ask because I personally became a born again Christian, and it's funny because things just seemed to change in my life. Things became so wonderful and I can't believe it. I've never been happier. I even came out of an abusive relationship and I now have the man of my dreams. He treats me like a total princess. I'm so happy. People even tell me when they see me for the first time in a year or so that I look beautiful and they can't believe how good I look. I don't know how to say that without sounding narcissistic. They say that I seem so happy and it shows. Has anyone else experienced a life change?

This is a bit from Eddie Izzard that I find absolutely hilarious and thought provoking

Yes, and the Crusades were, "We kill you in the name of Jesus!"
"Wait, we have Jesus too! He's a prophet in our religion! We kill you in the name of Jesus!"
"Do you? Well, we kill you for your dark skin, for Jesus was a white man from Oxford!"
"No, he wasn't! He was from Judea! Dark-skinned man, such as we!"
"Look, it's just we've come all this way. Would you mind awfully if we hacked you to bits? Just for the press back home."
What are your opinions?

Could you settle a disagreement that I am having with my uncle & I know I'm right. When a Jewish person marries outside their faith isn't the child always brought up by the mothers religion?

i could see where even if they were homosexual, they would be against the Old Testament, and even in the New Testament any references to such were not directly made by Christ, but by the other writers in later parts of the Gospel, if you look in a Bible which shows Christ's words in red (to distinguish), I see nothing that anybody should be against or disagree with, even a person who is communist, seems like even his teachings could be used by them, some even say marx used Christian communes for the basis of his ideology

As a main stream American Christian it's about 50/50. If I was from a different country I would still be Christian but behave and think differently. If I were to live a 100% Christian life style, I would have to be a Monk, or be Amish and live on a farm with nothing but nature and little to no technology. Yet, here I am typing on a computer, driving cars, playing video games, and learning all sorts of stuff on Yahoo Answers. lol. I'm very grateful that no one has been offended by my questions everyone has been very kind helpful and enlightening. I guess the next step after this question is to just read the Quran all ready.

Final note, how do I know if I'm reading an authentic Quran, or do I just trust any publisher who prints it?

18. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add onto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.
19. And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Yet, I have counted more than one hundred places where words were added or taken away in various publications of the New Testament. There are no plagues spoken of in history where the above words were accounted as the reason. I hear no words from Shouters that have said "God has taken away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city because of changes made in the text of the revelations.
