Are you open to "new light"? How would you know it it is truth?

If it is in accord with revealed light, then I am open to new light.
Jesus said:
1"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." " (John 8:12)

Isaiah says:
"To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."

The psalmist says:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path. "
and again:
"The unfolding of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple. "
(Psalm 119:105,130)
and again:
"For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light. "
(psalm 36:9)

So before you receive "new light", consider the warning of Jesus:
"The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.
"Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness." " Luke 11:34,35
for:
"But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! "
Matthew 6:23

People should always be open to reason, but not any opinion that crosses their path. I would honestly examine the evidence for the "new light" and try to see if it could be disproven or if it holds up.

I would know it is true if I could do repeatedly double-blind studies that showed the same result more than 50% of the time - that would be a pretty good indicator.

truth to me is in my gut and I just know when it is the truth and most people have red flags if it is not the truth

If the light is undeniably bliss filled and peaceful, it is something to consider.
