Let's see -
in many years of being indoctrinated into the belief system called Roman Catholic . . . I was taught these 'truths' . . .

Folks not baptized before death, went to limbo. . .
Folks eating meat on Fridays, went to hell . . .
Folks not attending mass on Sundays, went to hell . . .

These 3 beliefs are now changed . . .??? So -
where are the souls tonite?
that were in hell and limbo,
before the beliefs were changed???

This might be comical, if it weren't for the many mothers who were bereft, believing (because they were taught) that their babies who died unbaptized, would be banned from eternal happiness and peace . . .

I'm an Atheist and I was wondering what you think about us Atheists. Also, Why do you believe in God? Where did you find the proof that he exists? I'm just curious, because it's hard for me to understand without ACTUAL proof.

I ask because I'm guessing that like most of us, you don't actively investigate and dismiss each and every scientific theory that comes along on its own merits, but only the ones that threaten your religious beliefs.

In other words, do you research other theories (Einstein's relativity, Newtonian physics, modern string theory) or do you accept/ignore them because they "feel" right, or because there is no public debate against them?

I submit that most of you don't disagree with evolution or the big bang because you find the science unsound, but because you find the implications unsettling. But hey, maybe I'm wrong and you actually do investigate each and every scientific theory to ensure it too doesn't contain flawed/faulty science?

i mean if it was me i would say give me the gun now...

why love anyone if it is just running out everyday....with the only hope being delaying the inevitable...

i know atheists are content and happy many of them (but that seems to be passing away with eachday no???

If I were an atheist I would have no interest in attacking believers. As Christians often have doubts is it possible that these people also have doubts in their unbelief? One of the great Christian writers of all time( C.S. Lewis) spent much of his life as an atheist

I'm a "top contributor" in "Internet" and "Mathematics". If I don't know the answers off the top of my head, I do research and figure them out. I've gotten sick of that stupid pic in the e-mail that Y! Answers sends every time my answer is picked as the best answer.

Aside from this, I vote exclusively on questions in the "Religion and Spirituality" category, despite the fact that I have aptitude for neither religion nor spirituality.

Am I pathetic? How much so? Should I be doing something more productive? Or should I maybe just be out enjoying life in the real world?

Is it misleading of the press to imply that this:

"The conclusion of this study is that there are theological and liturgical reasons to hope that infants who die without baptism may be saved and brought into eternal happiness even if there is not an explicit teaching on this question found in revelation." -- 'The Hope of Salvation for Infants Who Die Without Being Baptised.' (2007)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070420/ts_nm/pope_limbo_dc_2

...is a 180 degree turn from this?

"As regards children who have died without Baptism, the Church can only entrust them to the mercy of God, as she does in her funeral rites for them. Indeed, the great mercy of God who desires that all men should be saved, and Jesus' tenderness toward children which caused him to say: 'Let the children come to me, do not hinder them,' allow us to hope that there is a way of salvation for children who have died without Baptism." -- paragraph 1261 of Catechism of the Catholic Church (1992)

Are religious texts full of 'junk' code that may never get expressed or only get expressed due to environmental needs or pressure?

Say a religion feels threatened, are some follows likely to use certain parts of their religious texts as reasons to lash out or fight back?

Is it possible for us -- Christian, Muslim, Jew, Pagan, Wiccan, Buddhist, Athiest, Hindu, Voodoo, etc., to discuss our religion in an atmosphere of mutual respect? I would like to, I honestly would. And I invite you all to do the same.

Here is the challenge -- can you answer the following questions without claiming that your religion is the only one that is true and valid, or that other people's religions are false?

What is your religion? How/why did you choose that path? Does it make you a better person? How?

I am a Pagan, but I also consider myself a Humanist, and I feel that respect for the dignity of all people can be a wonderful addition to any religion. I came to this path through years of study, seeking, meditating, prayer, and following my heart. I feel that it makes me a better person because I try to see everyone I meet as containing a spark of the divine.

OK, your turn! Serious answers only, and no bashing of another person's path!

Take the Basic Theology Quiz

http://www.carm.org/online/Basic_Theology%20-%20output/quizmaker.html

How did you do? The first time I took it I got 18 right. There were two questions I wasn't sure about. I took it a few more times and then got 19 correct and then got them all right.

I would like to learn more. How have any of you believers have gotten your theology with out basing it on one denomination per say? I am interested in hearing more about that.

If God is not able to prevent evil, but IS willing to, then doesn't that make him incompetent?

If God isn't willing to prevent evil, but he is able to, then doesn't that makes him malevolent?

If He IS able, AND He IS willing to prevent evil, then why does evil exist at all?

If God ISN'T able OR willing to prevent evil, then why do we call him God?

I want real answers. I am being as serious as I get, and I can get VERY serious; I don't want "Read the bible and it tells you" -- Or "Reported!!" -- Or any other rude answers ... I am being very serious and I want to know about this God of yours. If you have ever said your god is all powerful and all knowing, then you should at LEAST try to answer this question. Support your answers -- Please, and Thanks.

G'nite all!

If I were to 'pray' for something to happen, 99% of the time it would not happen. However, that 1% of the time it is certain to happen. Most people get their panties all up in a bunch "OH MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED". No. Get serious and get bent.
