Edit: Brendan, I'm not here because I doubt my faith and need self assurance. I'm here because i doubt other's faith and want to help them.

Edit again : Josh, I agree with you that Athiests have the right to express their views, but 80% of their posts are just insults about how ignorant and stupid Christians are. We don't spend all our time insulting your beliefs, so why do you attack ours so viciously? I know there's going to be some conflict, but come on...

Only 20% of my posts are insults, but they are GOOD ones.

For example

Question: What do narrow-minded theists really learn by asking hackneyed questions over and over?

Answer: Nothing.

They seem to exist here mostly to validate each others deluded belief system, ostensibly because it helps them maintain their delusion.

So let's see whether you choose as a best answer one that simply parrots your views, or an opposing viewpoint that you might actually grow and learn from.

Why isn't atheism a "religion?"

If one defines a religion as a "belief a supernatural power," then Atheism is not a religion. However, if one defines religion as one's "ultimate concern," i.e. the thing which with one considers to be the most important facet of one's life, the thing which gives one a sense of meaning in one's life, then Atheism is a religion.

I know an Atheist who was raised Catholic. He lost his faith after being abused by a preist when he was young. His "mission" in life is not to allow that to happen to anyone else. He has a "religious zeal" about teaching the dangers of being a Christian, especially a Catholic. He found his purpose in life - his religion if you will - but for the worst possible reasons. Reasons created by man and to the detriment of God.

That being said, there are many people who get their excitement from giving smart-assed answers to sincere questions from this site. Console yourself in the knowledge that, if they are here to get their "jollies" by posting rude replies, then they lack girlfriends/boyfriends, spouses, children, etc.; and they have nothing better to do with their time than seek juvenile thrills of insulting people they do not know behind the anonymity of the internet.

"Why are there Atheist questions in the religion section?" is the short answer to your question.

Atheism is the idea that there is no "god." "God" is apart of some religions, therefore Atheist have a right to comment on religious questions. Atheists have the right to express their ideas and opinions just as any religious folk do.

There are some people that claim to be atheist but really only do it to make people angry. Yes, there are ignorant atheists, but what group or sanction doesn't have them?

I do consider myself an atheist, but I do not like to thrash people on their ideas; unless it is completely absurd, such as the suicide bombers. Each person has their own views on life and I respect that.

There will always be someone rivaling an idea, no matter how popular it is.

I do not believe in any religion, but would like to converse about spirituality which can include god. Unfortunately, someone put religion, or current mythology, in the same category with it. It's quite annoying to hear some idiot spout some quotation from a fictitious book as if it was real.

Break out the beers, boys and girls! Another idiot has entered the scene!

Let us make this perfectly clear right here and now:

One does not actually have to be suffering from HIV/AIDS to be interested in finding a cure and offering that cure to those who are suffering.
One does not have to be afflicted with the virus of religion to be interested in finding a cure and offering it to those who are afflicted.

There is no sign above the entrance to this forum that says 'Believers in the Magic Sky Daddy ONLY may enter'.

My time is my own. I will use it as I see fit. Don't you worry about how I spend my time. Look after yourself and maybe you can come up with an original question next time.

True - I have no religion.
Spirituality? Define that.

Atheism is not a religion... as much as religious folks (mostly Christians) would like to say it is just to put atheists in their place. It doesn't work, but they continue to try.

We spend time here so we can be familiar with what religious people think and how they wish to change our world. Like it or not, you are in the majority and we must keep up with what you're doing.

Not all atheists are without spirituality, either... please educate yourself rather than spewing the dogma you've been told to believe.

Our purpose is not to say that theistic beliefs are ignorant and stupid (alhough they are), but rather to attempt to lead people to use their brains in rational thought rather than to spout superstitious nonsense. Not only will this be better for individuals, who will stop wasting time, effort, and money on useless pursuits, but for society as a whole.

By every definition of the word, Atheism fits the shoe to a "T." Atheism is a religion no ifs, ands, or buts. Even nothing is something.

religion to many is the belief and faith in something. Many people believe and have faith that atheism is truth, so they classify it with religion.
