What does this story mean to you, in the context of your belief system?

A young and studious monk went his teacher and said, "Teach me all about the Buddha nature." His teacher pushed him on the ground. The next day the student returned to his teacher, saying, "I am wiser today than yesterday. Teach me about the Buddha nature." The teacher clobbered him again.

This went on for days until finally the young student could stand it no more. He tearfully left the monastery and went back to his temple at home. There he told the chief monk what had happened. The chief monk said, "You are really stupid! That monk was kinder to you than a grandmother!"

The young student went back to the monastery, and found his teacher. He threw the teacher on the ground. His teacher got up and said, "Now I will teach you about the Buddha nature."

No where in the Bible does it remotely suggest that the apostles followed the teachings of the Catholic Church such as infant baptism or special devotion to Mary. The origins of the Roman Catholic Church as we know it today was more of a political move by Constantine, which was centuries later. The apostles were neither Protestant nor Catholic, because it's not membership in an organization or church that saves, but faith in Jesus. If Catholicism was the true Christianity, why would they contradict themselves and their history by now saying that Jews and Muslims, or even members of non Judeo-Christian religions are fellow believers because they are simply finding God in their own way. Inclusion of other faiths might seem like a noble idea from a wordly standpoint, but doesn't the Bible warn against being friends with the world.

So If I don't believe in God for these 75 years of my life then I'm going to be tortured in hell for *eternity* ?

Hmm that doesn't seem quite right does it?

An ETERNITY of the ultimate pain & anguish to atone for 75 years on this planet. Hm...

Are there any other religions that I may not be aware of? And by persecution, I mean where someone tries to supress it by violence. And please do not say "atheisim" because there is no comparision to what I am reffering to (leading up to death) CURRENTLY.

Don't get me wrong, I believe in miracles. I know they happen everyday and I'm thankful that so many people are saved by them. But whatever happened to bringing people back from the dead or healing a person just by touching their skin. Why did all of the really big miracles seem to stop after Jesus's death? Just because he is in heaven, doesn't mean any of his power is taken away. at least thats what i believe

In ancient Europe and other places, people lived in enclaves and villages. Never were your enemies permitted to live among you. A majority, not a minority, support suicide bombing and violence in the name of Islam. They want to spread Islam, even if it's done by the sword. We are deluding ourselves if we think islam is a peaceful religion. Something is not right with this religion.

Do you know that the Church even prior to Vatican 2 taught that their was Divine Law of the Church and Human Law of the Church. Divine Law can never be changed. Catholics are obliged to obey the Human Law but it can be changed, dispensed from etc.
For instance Law of Fast and Abstinence. Friday abstinence was never applied to Mexico.
Also mature judgement could be used. A friend who went to Mass after work got involved in her work and ate a candy bar within the time of the old 3 hour fast. She was in the Communion line when she realized she had broken the fast, but to sit back down would cause scandal and that would be more serious than worrying about the Law of Abstinence. Priest and a Bishop agreed she was correct.
If you see a person breaking their fast before communion, you are not to say anything to them.
If they go to communion unaware of breaking their fast they have done nothing wrong and the grace of the sacrament is theirs.

I'd love to hear what Christians and other theists think of the essay.

Jesus was Jewish and he saw much wrong with his faith. Greed and corruption were rampant in the temples and Jesus sought reform, not the start of his own religion. He said that he will tear down the temple and rebuild it in three days, but he didn't mean literally. It was a metaphor. All Jesus was trying to do was "tear down" down Temple and rebuild it as it was supposed to be, devoted to Yahweh, and free of corruption and greed. The Bible never actually mentions "Christianity" and for those of you who believe we are a "Christian nation" here in America, please take note of the Roman Empire and how Constantine co-opted and corrupted Christianity for his own purpose of staying in power. It happened then, it will happen again if we let it. Separation of Church and State is meant to protect religion from politics and politics from religion. Those who don't remember/learn from the past are condemned to repeat it. Are we? Agree? Disagree?

The reason the Limbo has been abolished is the huge number of children that die every day without being baptized. It seems that someone within the limbo complained about the crowd that has been entering the last 50 years. The lack of space makes the limbo uninhabitable. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
