If there really is heaven, and we indeed survive our death, why is it that we are all sad at the bedside of the dying? Why is it that we morn their loss, and why is it that we will not allow euthanasia to someone who is suffering so badly, so that they can go on and live pain free in glory? Is it that in the final analysis, we are none of us really sure? Why are be bemoaning death,if we never really die?

Have you noticed that whenever people want to pick on a religion, they always start with Christianity? Whenever people are surprised, they always choose Jesus' name to use in vein. I mean why not "Oh my Buddha!", or "Oh Allah!" instead of "Jesus Christ!". It gets on my neves. Why do you think they do this?

So, riddle me this. Where did the transition of the vengeful god to the unconditionally loving god occur? And what is the purpose of killing his son to prove his love for mankind? If he has so much power, why do we start on Earth at all, why not just begin eternally happy in heaven? What about people who don't get a chance to know 'the love of God'? What if your children weren't Christian at all and burned in hell for eternity while you continued to Heaven, could you truly be happy for eternity? Why doesn't God just kill Satan?

These are all questions that don't add up for me. There is so much corruption on the Earth, I can't fathom how any God would let these things happen. They call it Free Will, but punishment for using it?

I just got done reading "Frankenstein"...possibly my favorite book ever...and it deals with this particular question. So how about it, what should a creator do for his creation? Especially when said creation is a thinking being. Is the creator responsible for its happiness, health, and general well being? Should a created being revere its creator merely because he created it? Is it the creator's fault if the being is imperfect and inclined toward evil?

to sin, because he's god? but we can't do it because we're mankind?

i'm not trying to convert anyone (as someone said in answer to my last question) i just want people to open their eyes to their own beliefs, admit that their are some flaws and hypocrosies, then make an educated decision whether or not they want to continue to follow it.

why are people so afraid to look at their own beliefs objectively? does it all go back to god not wanting adam and eve to eat from the tree of KNOWLEDGE? why is god so afraid of people learning?

I don't know ANY atheist who wouldn't have been proud to chow down on *that* statue, and when they've had their fill, boastfully announce, "I'VE GOT JESUS INSIDE OF ME NOW!!!"

if you do, then why do you go against the very teachings of Jesus Christ himself, like when he says this.........

5"And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words

If you say that Isaiah is talking about Satan being Lucifer or the morning star, then why does Jesus later say he IS the morning star? Is he Satan? Seems satanic to me to pretend to be the son of God.

Isa 14:12
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!(also known as the morning star) how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Rev 22:16
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Christians in particular....
We all know 'a man' was paid to translate the bible into the english language !! Agreed !?!

Do you think he intentionally left parts out, hence the inconsistencies we find in the 'good' book today ??

If so why ??

And where 'did' the rest of the 'stories' go to. ??

No pasting please I just want straight answers and please don't just say what is there is the full book because there is 'no way it is'

PS... does this deserve a wee star by any chance ? no !!

But when US troops do the same in Iraq (including a home with mostly women and children, one as young as 4months old) it's called "collateral damage"?

Isn't this the worst kind of double standard?

I have my own religious beliefs, and I am very respectful of others opinions, but I don't like when people from church knock at my door, trying to talk about how I am supposed to live my life. I don't want to be rude, I don't believe in organized religion, and because they have a mission, they believe they have the right to knock whenever they want. How can I stop this? Maybe there is a way to put up a sign at my front door that would help me keep this people away from me?

I am just taking poll. Don't try to convert me, you'd be wasting your time. I've never believed in God or the Bible and I probably never will. Also, I don't need to hear about how I am going to go to Hell just because I don't believe in God. If you say that, get real. Hell doesn't exist and neither does God.

I was thinking of starting an Atheist Prayer Group.

Not to pray, of course, but to receive prayer. It will be a group that will constantly offer themselves as objects of prayer to religious people.

We'll be prayed to all day long. They can wish us to hell, they can pray for us to find their gods, etc, etc.

It'll be a sacrifice for humanity. The religious people will be happy, because they will actually have people who wanna be prayed for, the other atheist can go on with their lives without being bugged anymore and they can finally focus on trying this planet truly a better place.

Any atheists that wanna join me in sacrificing themselves for humanity?

Oh, I still need a cool name for it, any ideas?

Are there any good books out there on sermon illustrations?

There are only so many real-life illustrations that one can come up with.

I'm not saying that every message needs to have an illustration....but it does help paint a clearer picture to the congregation sometimes.
