Today is Buddha's birthday, according to Japanese tradition. It's always on the eighth, no more arbitrary than the first Sunday after the first full moon of Spring, and you get to play with flowers either way.

Does your faith grow stronger by questioning the validity of another faith's symbols of the Holy Day that was mirrored/assimilated by your own? After 1000+ years, do you still have to ridicule the bunny and the egg? Are you out to prove something, or still working to destroy a faith that is damn near dead anyways?

With some of the answers I have seen on here people just want to mock and try to make God and Jesus a joke. Can they not discuss religion seriously. If you are a believer or not people should be able to discuss religion seriously. If you are not going to discuss it and just want to make a joke out of it why bother?

That is cool if I can. The first thing this mind controlling Christian would do is make Q and the fundamentalists say nice things to each other.

Are there any Christian books out there that are sort of a guide to how a Christian should live and act? Obviously, I know the Bible is the ultimate source, but I am looking for extra help that is more in-depth and will help me deal with some of the things I go through as a young woman in today's corrupt society. Have you read anything you would recommend? Thanks!

This is a bit of a rhetorical question, but I've found a particular fact about religion to be intriguing: regardless of the faith, denomination or whatnot, many believers (note I said MANY-not all or most!) tend to put all logic aside and either denounce or slander other peoples' beliefs when brought up in conversation. Example: I was dining with some clients when Christianity somehow came up. One of them, a devout Christian, kept getting flustered about me being an atheist. I asked her "why do you find it necessary to dis-acknowledge me because I don't believe in your god?" She replied that god's "love" is his gift to me and I shouldn't take it for granted. For the life of me, I can't find a shred of logic behind this way of thinking! Is it part of one's religious upbringing to deny the existence of free thought sans the belief in a particular deity?

For some background I was raised in an Athiest home and was sexually abused a lot as a child. So I became very depressed and I developed an eating disorder, started cutting, and abusing drugs in my teens.
I became a Christian in college, so I started going to Baptist church with my friends but left a couple months later because I tried talking to people at church about getting help for my problems. I was told that Satan was the one telling me to do all of this and if I was relying on Jesus, then I wouldn't have these problems. That upset me because I was doing the best I knew how to do. So I started going to Catholic church and found a lot more acceptance and support for my problems. I got help and am no longer using drugs, but I’m still having problems with the cutting. My priest gave me a rosary to pray and I haven’t cut myself once since I got the rosary. I was excited about this so I told my Baptist friends about and they jumped all over it saying I was worshipping Mary

drugs away from him and changed his life, he says he is filled with strength and guided daily.

My question is, Jesus is the way the truth and the light, so when people of other religions say that God is working in their lives, is that just Satan trying to fool them?

I am. And, to be honest, it has been awhile since I've been to church; and I am looking forward to it! I hope I will increase going more in the future!

Why do we use a bunny and chocolates instead of the real meaning of the holiday for children?

I swear, in the past hour I've seen "ARE U GOIN 2 CHURCH ON SUNDAY???!!!" at least three million times. Yes, I know it's your very special Pagan-turned-Christian holiday tomorrow, but do you NEED to ask the same question over and over again?

No, I'm not going to church tomorrow. I have a life. I have work. I'm an Agnostic, I don't celebrate Easter, other than maybe getting a chocolate bunny from a family member as a joke.

Are they mindless drones unable to think and speak for themselves?

2007-04-07 18:34:36 · 43 answers · asked by Anonymous

would you rather change your beliefs every now and then based on evidence. It would mean that you would have to admit that you were once wrong. And if you admit that you were once wrong, you would have to admit that you may still be wrong about some things. Still, it’s better than just believing in fiction.

Do any of you think Jesus was a man who connected with God later in life, and in that way became his son, but was a normal man before?

Wouldn't his teachings be as important either way?

**I'm not trying to offend anyone. If this does not describe you, please disreguard my question.

I'm a teen and I read the King James Version and I understand it. Why do some Christians insist on reading other versions? The KJV has depth to it. I have read the other versions and they're so watered down it makes me sad. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I notice that tv stations like MTV and VH-1 don't have Sundays dedicated to church and God, however, all the Black tv stations do. Why does the Black community have a deeper and much stronger faith than the White tv stations (which is practically every other station). Even the Latin and Asian channels dedicate Saturdays and Sundays to church. What is different about this picture?
