The common misuse of the term as a substitute for "I have an idea" seems prevalent.

Albert Einstein had two Theories, The General Theory of Relativity and The Special Theory of Relativity. He spent the remainder of his life trying to develop the Unified Field Theory, but he was unsuccessful.

According to the pew sitters, he could have just stated, "I think those field thingies are unified." and knocked off for coffee around 8:10 AM on the first day.

A Theory is a functional working model, which has to incorporate all of the known data and predict future data, similar to a computer model, but before computers.

You seem to think that Creationism is a competing Theory, when it meets none of the criteria of a Theory.

No Garden of Eden, no talking snakes, no evidence of a recent 'Creation', and ALL evidence outside of your mythological story pointing in the other direction.

We have decided as parents to expose our children to different faiths & cultures. We don't want them growing up & being afraid of or non-accepting of people groups different than their own. We don't want them to miss out on some really great friendships. We attend church, but also have friends who are non-Christian and we hang out with & attend events sponsored by their houses of worship. I get so much criticism from my mother-in-law about this and she tells me I am not a real Christian. Anybody got similar experience who can help with this? She is giving me a really hard time about Easter.

How can you take the bible seriously when it very clearly states in exodus 31:15 that anyone who works on the sabbath day should be put to death?

I don't care if you think it meant in olden times and not today. Putting people to death for working on the sabbath at any time in history is a bit extreme isn't it?

Besides, what it directs people to do is clear. It doesn't matter what context you look at it from, the meaning is obvious.

With stuff like this in the bible, why take any of it seriously?

Is it not obviously flawed?
