a good joy belly laugh can turn to a cry of sadness in the blink of an eye so I did both.

Last night, watching a romantic movie on DVD. I cry easily. It was not so much sadness or joy, since I had seen the movie several times before and knew what would eventually happen (happy ending). It is in sympathy. It is in identifying with the characters and their emotional state.
The last time I cried for myself was only two days ago. I went to a meeting I really did not feel like going to, and was sitting alone in the meeting room while the rest of the people were downstairs noshing on food I could not afford to eat (too fat) and standing up or sitting on high stools. I can't stand long without my feet and ankles and knees and hips and back hurting me, and I cannot hoist myself up onto those high kitchen stools. So I was wallowing in self-pity for being so fat.
I cry often, but it's not always from self-pity or sympathy. Sometimes it is joy, or simply overwhelming emotion of any sort. Fear can make me cry, which is infuriating, because it seems so childish to me. Frustration and anger can make me cry. My tear ducts are on a hair trigger. Still, "I would rather feel the pain than not at all," as Blood, Sweat and Tears put it all those years ago.

Hey.............I even cried during Star Wars
Seriously though almost everyday, my wife or kids or both leave me crying tears of joy at some stage of the day.
Everytime I see my little boy smile, or my daughter plants a kiss on my cheek, the tears start to well up in my eyes. Just passing a quick glance at my wife often has the same effect.

Yesterday, It was a little of both. I was watching the video of the Dad surprising his 6 year old son at school. He had been in Iraq in the army and his son didn't know his dad was due home that day. I cried because of the happy Reunion and because the little boy had to be away from his dad for so long. Look it up on utube. It;s awesome.

Joy, but it was a long time ago. These days things are very even with no dips and no overload on the emotions. I like the even temperment.
