I recently moved to a new town. I have always gone to a Baptist church, but never truly fit in. I am very liberal, and I am a democrat and agree with most Democratic view-points. I don't like it when my politics and religion clash. I accept that Christ is my savior, I am sure I'm not Catholic. I've heard that Presbyterian churches tend to be more liberal. Are there any other suggestions. By the way, I don't agree with the war in Iraq and never have, I am pro-choice, but think there should be stronger guidelines. I would like more information on the Presbyterian denomination as well as other demoninations that may suit my needs. All input is appreciated.

For arguments sake, lets just say that Christian holidays like Easter and Christmas didn't start out as Pagan celebrations, but were rooted in Christian historical events. Why are Pagan rituals STILL praticed at Christian gatherings? I think anyone with half a brain would realize that in the Christian religion, symbols like Santa or the Easter Bunny, are by definition, false idols. When Christians incorporate these charecters into their celebrations, they are actually sinning against God. I think we can all agree that at the present time, Christians have nothing to fear from the savage Pagan heathens. Why not stop being hypocrates and stop insulting the praticing Pagans of todays society. Are you afraid that if you do, the main tool you use in getting children to subconsiously equate religion with good, could disappear? I can think of no other reason that the worship of false idols, would still be practiced, let alone stongly encouraged by the church.

considering the fact that this issue can never be decided to anyones satisfaction, especially the extremists, isn't it better to err on the side of the woman rather than legislate against her? and in thinking about this question, do not take the fetus into account for it has no ability to reflect on morality...

According to Matthew 28:6, Mark 16:6, and Luke 24:6, was the tomb empty because Jesus had risen from the dead, or was the tomb empty Jehovah's got rid of the body?

Presumably the quote is from a theist, but I think it's probably true. Superstition is easy - it's intellectual laziness, an unwillingness to think things through, examine evidence, question what your religious leaders tell you to believe, examine your own beliefs and instincts. Rational thought is not necessarily easy, it doesn't necessarily come naturally, and that's why it's so important for us to help and encourage people to think for themselves. This is the answer to the perennial question of why atheists have to be in the R&S section - so that fewer people may think that it's OK to take the easy way out.

Well, simple enough question, would you rather be blissful and unable to think for all of eternity (the only way I could see that heaven as is is described in the bible could work, but I'd rather not debate that here), or capable of rational thought, possibly even more clear rational thought than your present ability, with constant pain for all eternity?

Christopher Penczak wrote that he, as a Wiccan, has found a special connection with a certain deity. I want to do the same, but so many websites out there just give names or pictures. Not what I need. I need names, and lore. Can anyone give me a website that has what i need? Thanks.

Why do you hang out in the Religion and Spirituality section when you're not spiritual? When I was Atheist, I didn't care at all about religion.

When peace like a river attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows role
Whatever my lot, thou has taught me to know
It is well, it is well with my soul.

When satan should buffet - when trials should come
Lest this blest assurance control
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate
And has shed His own blood for my soul

If God is all powerful and can do anything, then why did he create a humanity that could even sin?

Then, if that creation did sin (which means HE really isn't PERFECT) why did he need to create a son with a birth where the woman wasn't touched by a dirty man? Then why did that son have to give his life for us?

Couldn't have g money upstairs just said "Okay, forgiven" and that's that? Or did the big man upstairs need some fresh blood?

So he created himself for himself so that he could sacrifice himself to himself to forgive himself.

Besides, if there was a god then Angelina Jolie would be in every movie.
