Why do you hang out in the Religion and Spirituality section when you're not spiritual? When I was Atheist, I didn't care at all about religion.

According to the Bible (Romans 1), an atheist knows deep down in his/her heart that there is a God and “suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” Though an atheist is blinded by Satan’s lies, there is a longing in every human heart to search and know God. Man is made in image of God. That's one reason why an atheist hangs out in the Religion and Spirituality section

“Because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools.” Romans 1: 18-22

Everybody has the right to be in this section as everybody has something to say when it comes to the subject of religion. Believe it or not religion affects people's daily lives especially since it's being mixed into politics and government as well. Just because a person is non religiious doesn't mean that they aren't spiritual.

Because the subject of religion affects our lives, too. It affects our lives very strongly, so we have a right to come to a forum like this to discuss the subject of religion.
And why are there believers on here answering this question? "Because they..." (followed by some incorrect assumption they make about the feelings or beliefs of atheists.) If you're not an atheist, don't presume to tell others what we think or feel. Oh, wait, it's Georgie Girl. She does this all the time. We're used to her ignorance. Never mind.

But you see, that's the great thing about being an atheist. We don't all have the same views about everything. Personally, I like discussing religion because I think its interesting. I don't like having someone else's beliefs shoved down my throat, but I very much enjoy having an intelligent conversation with other open-minded people and debating the mysteries of life.

Also, atheists can be spiritual. Buddhism is the most obvious example of this. And spirituality doesn't have to involve god or religious practices, it can simply be the process of discovering your morals, determining what values are important to you, and basically finding your individual purpose in life -- which, once again, doesn't have to involve following a deity.

The idea of spirituality can be broken down into these things, basically:

1)Meaning – significance of life; making sense of situations; deriving purpose.
2)Values – beliefs, standards and ethics that one cherishes.
3)Transcendence – experience, awareness, and appreciation of a "transcendent dimension" to life beyond self.
4)Connecting – increased awareness of a connection with self, others, God/Spirit/Divinity, and nature/Nature.
5)Becoming – an unfolding of life that calls for reflection and experience; including a sense of who one "is" and how one knows.
6)Simultaneously improving one's wisdom and willpower
7)Achieving a closer connection to Deity/the universe
8)Removing illusions or "false ideas" at the sensory, feeling and thinking aspects of a person.

While all of these things don't relate to atheism, some relate to it quite well -- especially numbers 5,6, and 8.

To Petina;?
Why do we read about space exploration when we are not rocket scientists?
Why do those of faith "hang out" and ask all their questions in the Religion & Spirituality category, but answer the questions about Sex & Pregnancy, Marriage & Divorce, Polls & Surveys as IF they were?
When I was ignorant, I didn't care at all about learning about other people with different beliefs.

Hoooold on a minute. I consider myself extremely spiritual and I'm not religious at all. You can have one without the other.

But the biggest reasons why we're here are...
1) This is an interesting topic.
2) Religion affects all of our lives.
3) You guys keep asking us questions anyway.

Don't care about religion either, but its fun to make fun of the religiously infected fools. And somebody has to point out the lies the religious tell.

I do it becuause it's fun to read the bull **** that people post in an effort to prove their god's existence, or to discuss certain apsects of their religions being superiour or another religion being inferior..

I could tear down religion so well, if I'm patient enough to tpye it all out..

IMy point in religion.. is irrefutable, beucase it is comepleteyl true.

I'ts fun seeing people dither like retards when having common sense shoved under the nose in the face of blind faith..

Ever notice how R&S is a sub-section of Society & Culture?

Religion is important in the society that I live in, whether I believe in God or not.

I used to call myself athiest but I was actually agnostic. Maybe some people just want to see what it is all about just as we may not understand their lack of faith. Of course, there are always those that just want to rant, just like in the Politics sections.
