Suppose you're at the beach and you make a nice big fancy sandcastle, complete with moat and turrets and so on. Later, the tide comes in and washes it all away - the sand gets spread around the beach and all trace of your sandcastle disappears.

Where did it go? Well, clearly the castle didn't 'go' anywhere as such - it was a temporary arrangement of grains of sand that went to make up something recognisable to us, and when the sea washed it away, it simply ceased to exist. Another day, someone else might come along and make another castle using some of the same sand that went into your castle, but the one you made is gone and can never exist again.

This is how it is with human beings - we are recognisable to ourselves and others as living organisms, but fundamentally we are temporary constructions of atoms and molecules and will one day simply cease to exist. Just as the sandcastle consists solely of the sand from which it is made, so human beings consist solely of the atoms and molecules of which they are made. When we die, our bodies will be returned to the environment to be incorporated into new living organisms, or to fall as rain, or to make the bedrock of a million years from now. We are ephemeral creatures, a brief pattern of order and complexity imposed on the raw material of the natural world. We should make the most of it, for this is all there is.

==========

What exactly do you think a soul is? What properties does it have? What part of 'you' resides in the soul?

If it's postulated that consciousness, or awareness, or sense of self resides in the soul, it's difficult to see how this can be reconciled with the complete oblivion which accompanies general anaesthesia. How could a straightforward chemical, injected into the bloodstream, anaesthetise a soul so that it effectively ceases to exist during this time? If consciousness, in the form of a soul, were some kind of supernatural faculty, it would seem implausible that it could be completely disabled by a chemical.

How about some of the other things which we regard as essential parts of what makes a person what they are? How about love, compassion, reason, empathy, memory, conscious thought, character, 'spirituality' and so on? Well, there is really no plausible doubt that all these things are properties of the physical brain - We can alter all of these properties very simply with alcohol or other drugs, and observe how they change in people who have suffered significant brain damage. Previously placid people become uncontrollably violent, intelligent people become imbeciles, and so on. Stimulate the brain artificially, and the subject reports corresponding mental activity, e.g. 'religious experiences'. We can see from brain research that all these things - thought, emotion, sensation, character traits and so on - are correlated with activity in the brain, and some things can be identified with specific areas of the brain.

So, if all these faculties and characteristics of what we regard as the 'person' reside in the physical brain, as seems to be undeniably the case, and they all cease when the person dies, then what is left to be attributed to a 'soul'? As far as I can ascertain: Nothing. If there is no part of us that can continue after death, then there is no 'afterlife'... and if there is no afterlife, then most of religion is null and void.

Since Jehovah God is the source of life, I will quote the Holy Scriptures. Genesis 2:7 "Man was formed out of dust from the ground and Jehovah God blew into his nostrils the breath of life, and man came to be a living soul." Genesis 3:19, Man would return to the ground, for out of it he was taken. "For dust you are and to dust you will return." Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10 "The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they any more have wages, because the rememberance of them has been forgotten. All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol (mankind's common grave), the place to which you are going."

We are spirit beings and earth is just our training school. We come to spirit class when we are born into this world. And after our lessons are over for a day, an incarnation, then we go back home to the Real World, the Spirit World.

Here is an excellent resource that you might want to check out.

The Right to Enter Paradise

Death is inevitable. The thief on the cross knew when his would occur, but we can not predict our own. After his death, the crucified criminal went to live in paradise with Jesus. Some of us will also live eternally in God's presence. But others will experience everlasting torment, forever separated from Him.
If we receive Jesus as our Savior, our penalty for sin is paid. We are adopted into God's family, and Heaven is our eternal home. If we reject Jesus, we remain alienated from the Lord and under condemnation for our sin. We are destined to experience eternal judgment. God won't accept any of man's excuses because there is no acceptable defense for unbelief. (Acts 4:12)
Become part of God's family today. Acknowledge your sinfulness, and express your faith in these words:
"God, I have sinned against You. (Romans 3:23) I've followed my own way and refused to give You the right to rule in my life. (Romans 3:10-12) I recognize I am separated from You and cannot rescue myself. I do believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son. I accept the truth of the Scriptures? that His death on the cross paid my sin-debt in full. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) And I ask You to forgive me of my sins. (1 John 1:9) By faith, I receive You, Lord Jesus, as my personal Savior from this moment on."
If you just spoke those words to God, then, like the thief on the cross, you have received salvation? a gift of God's grace. The heavenly Father welcomes every person who comes to Him through His Son, regardless of background, age, or current situation. Through Jesus, the right to enter paradise is yours!

No one knows, because no one has ever come back to tell us. I don't think there is a soul. I don't think there's any point in spending time speculating about what, if anything, happens after we die, and instead spend time enjoying this life, since you probably wont' get another.

If you accept Jesus and his blood washes away your sins you become a new creation in Christ when you die you go to heaven. If not you go to hell

Jesus told a true story about two real men who had died I believe this answers your Question.
Luke 16:19-17:1

19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

I don't believe in life after death. After you die that's it, you're dead.

They go to either Heaven or Hell (what decides which one they go to is if they have faith in Christ)
