I recently moved to a new town. I have always gone to a Baptist church, but never truly fit in. I am very liberal, and I am a democrat and agree with most Democratic view-points. I don't like it when my politics and religion clash. I accept that Christ is my savior, I am sure I'm not Catholic. I've heard that Presbyterian churches tend to be more liberal. Are there any other suggestions. By the way, I don't agree with the war in Iraq and never have, I am pro-choice, but think there should be stronger guidelines. I would like more information on the Presbyterian denomination as well as other demoninations that may suit my needs. All input is appreciated.

I chose to be democratic and liberal because I think that these people are more loving and accepting, and I feel that if Christ were alive today he would be too. I feel that Republicans are too easy to condemn people for their beliefs, and in my past experiences I have found so-called Republican Christians to generally be racists and quick-to-judge others, rather than loving and accepting. I think this is terribly wrong, and won't no part of a church where I feel people hold these beliefs. I am a white man, and was raised in the South, but I think God created us all equally, and I love everyone, no matter what, and that's what I want in a church more than anything.

The local newspaper (Friday or Saturday edition) probably lists all the churches in the area where you are living. Check out the list and try visiting different churches of different denominations until you find one that fits your beliefs.

No one should be going to any denomination.

I Corinthians 1:10-17 (HCSB, Holman Christian Standard Bible)
Divisions at Corinth
10 Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all say the same thing, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction. 11 For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers, by members of Chloe's household, that there are quarrels (A) among you. 12 What I am saying is this: each of you says, "I'm with Paul," or "I'm with Apollos," (B) or "I'm with Cephas," (C) or "I'm with Christ." (D) 13 Is Christ divided? (E) Was it Paul who was crucified for you? Or were you baptized in Paul's name? 14 I thank God [a] [b] that I baptized none of you except Crispus (F) and Gaius, (G) 15 so that no one can say you had been baptized in my name. 16 I did, in fact, baptize the household (H) of Stephanas; (I) beyond that, I don't know if I baptized anyone else. 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with clever words, so that the cross (J) of Christ will not be emptied [of its effect].

You cannot be liberal in Christ's church (Rev 3:16).

Revelation 3:16 (HCSB, Holman Christian Standard Bible)
16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit [a] you out of My mouth.

Footnotes:

[a] Revelation 3:16 Or spit

Nobody cannot be Christian and pro-choice, being pro-choice is for a mother to be able to murder her own child from her womb. She would have to live with that guilt for the rest of her life.

Christ built ONE CHURCH, not many. The church is His bride.

Matthew 7:14 (HCSB, Holman Christian Standard Bible)
How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.

You cant make God suit you and chose the one that is closest to how the world thinks without God. The best way is to go to the one that teaches the bible. God doesnt just want us to be hearers of the Word but doers. You dont even seem like you believe the bible or what Jesus taught as true. Modern churches are ok but compromising churches are not. Try a non denominational church. Get yourself into a bible study class and learn with others what God is telling you.

your 'denomination' doesn't really matter-it's just a label...i am also a liberal democrat, and i am a member of a southern baptist church-i have been fortunate enough to serve my church with committee work, teaching vacation bible school, and other activities...do my political views match those of the rest of the congregation? in most cases, no...does that matter? not in the slightest-i'm a part of a body of believers and we are all united in serving and following Christ-politics is trivial, in the grand scheme of things...are you sure you're not looking for a political party, and not a church? if it is so important to you that the church body that you worship with matches your politics, maybe it is time to ask yourself this question-what's more important to me-Christ or politics? you can't serve two masters, remember?

Episcopalian! The one true faith!
(with lovely services and a dignified, ancient liturgy to boot)
It is generally more liberal than the Presbyterians on social issues, although there is a lot of variety between different parishes, some of which are more Catholic, and others more evangelical.

Go to Fred Phelps' church. He represents True Christianity and he has tons of Biblical reasons to back up what he teaches. All the others have too much Humanism mixed into theirs.

Not that Humanism is bad, but it's not Christian either.

Better yet, Start your own church. That's all the rage these days. Makes good money to!

Methodist,.Presbyterian, Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ are all middle-of-the-road progressive churches that are realistic in their approach to religion.

>>I don't like it when my politics and religion clash.<<

So you want a religion that conforms to your beliefs, instead of conforming your beliefs to what God has revealed? I find that disturbing.

"Not every one who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." -- Matthew 7:21
