Does the Bible ever say?

2007-04-07 15:14:35 · 33 answers · asked by Anonymous

Or would it be utter chaos?

Say there was no law, and you could do whatever you wanted as long as you followed your religious beliefs. Do you think that would be a good thing? Of course, this would mean that terrorists would get away with killing infidels, and mormons could marry dozens of wives, and Christian Scientists could withhold medical treatment from their kids even if it meant they would die.

If you think it would be chaos, does that show that morals don't come from god, but come from man? And that it's man-made law, not religion, that is the glue that holds society together?

Background! A one sentence irrelevant answer - sometimes most abusive too - get similar points like another intelligent answer resultant to thoughts. Questions cost five marks! Answers or Questions; the points should be equal. Yahoo Answer Forum should enforce a condition that each answer if limited to a sentence should be adequate to answer the question raised. If not it should cost certain exemplary punishment points. Similarly there should also be a 'Question Team' that rewards answers and questions according to merits. (1) "What are you ranting about" (2) “You better consult a Doctor” – Are these answers although these are answers that can overflow the points’ basket? Come to questions! (1) “Do you love me …. Platonically (2) How to identify one by gender? The last one I nearly answered with “It is with the physical prowess of GIVE and TAKE” and then deleted it. In the process I lost two points. in the OT and the God in the NT. If you look at the OT God comes off as very wraithful and vengeful e.g. Turning people into pillars of salt and the whole 7 plauges deal. Then in the NT God comes off as all loving and merciful i.e. sending jesus and healing people.

I know that there some things that God does in the OT that seem loving and merciful but the number of things God seems to do seems to be wraithful in the OT

Please dont let this question come off as rude or arrogant, i'm serousily wondering this question . I would ask my pastor but whenever I ask him a question he either says he doesnt know or gives some answer that has absolutly nothing to do with what I asked

The most common reason given by the young people:

"Churches teach nonsense."

(Source: CNN; "What would Jesus really do" aired 4/7/07)

Why would 15 million young people consider the churches as teaching nonsense?

(PS: I am not an Atheist or Agnostic)

when that clan was pagan they descended from Odin, and when they became christians, then descended from Jesus...how convenient. And how "Royal" for the french Church Still indebted for their protection at a critical political point? To all accounts, those people weren't more pious or devoted of their so called ancestor, than a catholic gangster mob,so any divine genes don't make them holier or closer in the footsteps of the carpenter;not even closer to the less understanding follower of the fishermen.

How can it be that the holy Grail, becomes more important than its Master? The mere "living blood" more important than the one spelt by Himself?
Unless the "magdalene" ran a sect that gave more worship to her own Self and her offspring(and Jesus?) ,preaching less moral values in line with her former profession and her merowingian sons of thugs. No wonder she had to move to the future France to run her "religious" business.

To me, the idea that a god created us by magic is banal and boring, whereas the fact that we're the product of 4 billion years or so of complex chemistry is absolutely fascinating and exciting. The reality is so much better than the mythology.

What say you?

I know someone who is about 50 years old who sits there and hugs and kisses a dog and talks to it like a baby. Is there any Christians who have the courage to not be afraid of sinners and the devil and speak up against perversion like this. I want to know if there are any real Christians out there? Because if you don't think there is something wrong with that, then you are not saved.

I really can't. I was raised Protestant, but turned away after high school. I'm not going to say with that there is no God, but I detest most of what is written about him. The idea of a benevolent God that condones violence and suffering, as found througout religious books, and sends the vast majority of his creations to an eternal infinite hell really turns me off. Is there anyone else who feels this way?

As an atheist, I'm always told I have no morals, because I don't follow the 10 Commandments.

Christians have morals, because they follow the 10 Commandments. That's 10 rules. 10 lousy rules.

I follow the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I follow the Constitution of my country. I follow all the laws of my country. I follow International Law and the Laws of Physics. Then there is etiquette, logic and customs.

I did some counting, and stopped counting at 100,000 rules I follow.

How on earth can simply following 10 silly rules make a person think he/she even has morals?

I can understand if it's the latter. I am a jaded ex-Catholic. Tried the other Christian faiths. I just don't think any of it is what Christ had in mind. I especially love the whole WWJD campaign...But what would Jesus do if he bumped into a homesexual on the street? Well sorry folks, he would welcome him or her as a brother or sister JUST LIKE YOU.
I got off track. Mainly, I just wanted to know what most "atheists" believe: No God or no Christian God?

that people who believe in other religions such as jewish, buddhist, muslim, hindus, etc. can still go to heaven?

Judaism believes that all people on earth should follow at very least the following seven laws
1. Do not murder.
2. Do not steal.
3. Do not worship false gods.
4. Do not be sexually immoral.
5. Do not eat a limb removed from a live animal.
6. Do not curse God.
7. Set up courts and bring offenders to justice.

It seems to be compatible with atheism except for number 6, which i don't thin an atheist would do unless he wanted to be spiteful.

10 points for the first person to tell me all His promises

- just in case you weren't sure if you got them all there are 8810 of them

I heard that on a Christian radio show - I didn't count them myself
anyway I guess I should ask a question about this

have you ever thought about all those promises from God?

I'm sure there's one in there for whatever you are going through

God Bless
