Kids today are far more educated and inquisitive than 20 years ago. The focus of most Sunday school classes is bible teachings (Jonah, Noah, etc) that really have little relevance to kids today. A far better approach may be to focus on community service projects where they can see the results of a labor of love.

I would imagine that since Christianity is in the majority here, and the most vocal Christian groups have a propensity to say that science is wrong about things that are generally accepted by scientists as common knowledge (the age of the planet, evolutionary theory, etc.), well-educated young people feel as though they are justified in writing the whole thing off as hogwash.
Honestly--once a politician says something so wrong it's laughable, do you ever take him or her seriously again? Religion must follow the same standards of credibility, and for many people (apparently) they are just not measuring up.
(Note: disliking organized religion has nothing to do with why I'm an atheist, but I imagine that this is the reason for the majority of young people who answered the way they did in this poll.)

We were just talking about this last week.
What has been discovered, is that if a young person has not had a grounded upbringing in their faith, with relevent teachings, once they reach post secondary school and are more readily exposed to evolutionary and/or atheist/agnostic teachings, they are more likely to leave their religion behind.
Parents need to start taking back their responsibility to teach their children about their God in a living, relevent way.
Only part of the issue is that of the various Christian religions not keeping up with our young people. Times change, tradition does not always hold the attention of people.
Blessings UW :)

God said in His word ,that He will shorten the days, less He find no faith left.
It is so sad my most Holy Father gets little or no respect.
I think the young are not seeing a great love in the church for God.
The new mega Churches have no leaders for the people coming in.No teachers. The Pastors are high minded and can not come down to the people. The new christian is having the word not taught to them.
Children going to church today ,are not finding Jesus in the church. We are losing our children to the world.Sad but truth.
The church has cried we want to be more like the world. When Jesus said come out from among them.

According to a family member of mine...I'm Agnostic because I refuse to accept the structure of religion....
I would agree with the nonsense idea in that even among the religious people, they can't even decide what is going on. If no one knows anything for sure....it makes sense to be Agnostic (for me, anyways.) There's no proof pointing me anywhere. Only evidence, which is what I base my best guess off of.
That's really just one aspect of it. It really is hard for me to sum up all the reasons I think the way I do.

Because there are those who claim to be Christian and try to show themselves as perfect, when in fact, being a Christian means being open about being a screw-up on the front end and being open about the mistakes we make. Also using that freedom to do some good in this world. When people see tru hypocrites in the church, they never get the message of Christ, they get the message of his hypocritical followers. As a Christian, I want people to know that I suck, but God can make up for that in me.

Throughout history man has created over 8,000 Gods--most have dropped by the wayside as our knowledge increased--For example Thor --the Thunder God disappeared once we learned the physics of thunder--This Jewish God has been proved wrong on insisting the world was flat & standing on pillars--now --as fossil evidence is uncovered on a daily basis the concept of creationism is being exposed as yet another myth.Perhaps the time is drawing neigh to relegate this God to the scapheap of other abanded Gods as well.

Virgin birth, Walking on water, Noah's ark...... well if you never heard these stories and someone tried to tell you it really happened you would think its nonsense 2.
Yeas i think a single survey is not reliable. It would not surprise me if it was true either.
