SoOoOo.... who believes that between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 there was a Gap in time?

1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth
2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

and then in Deuteronomy 32:4 it says
4He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

God is light and cannot create anything in a less than perfect state, so a newly created earth from the hand of God shouldn't have been without form and void, and shrouded in darkness

Some believe this is an explanation for the event that throws the Earth into chaos is the fall of Lucifer (Satan) in the events of Revelation 12:7-12 which talks about the Devil being cast out of heaven to the earth

others believe this is where an "old" earth was created and then destroyed

What do you think?

I need biblical answers to my biblical question.

My first few initial questions, to understand the views of many atheists, were pretty revealing. So I figured I would throw out another thesis, and a question to counter it...

(While I understand that this may not be ALL atheists' viewpoints, I am only trying to understand the generally accepted view of most atheists)

From what I have perceived now -- Atheists believe that it is a fact that their is absolutely no Empirical Evidence, thus far in this world, that any God(s) exist. And, that it is not logical to believe in something for which there is no evidence.

In other words, an atheist will claim that God(s) don't exist because there is no scientifically tested Proof.

That being said, I want to pose this question:: What about Love?

You can't scientifically test and show proof of Love, so do you disbelieve in Love as well?

BUT THEN people started sinning again so he had so send himself as jesus to fix it. Did god forget something when he made humans? if we were really created in his image wouldnt we be a little....smarter?

In my opinion belief is something that needs to be evaluated by balance of probability. In a relatively fixed framework that's fine, but consider what happens when new knowledge comes to light.

How then do you re-evaluate your beliefs? For example, if something emerges that casts serious doubt on a fundamental pillar of your belief do you then question yourself and ask "Am I right? Do I need to think this through?"

If two people where in danger of being killed (how doesn't matter) and you could save only one, which would you save?
This is what you know about them: Both are the same age, Both have families that need them, Both are considered "good" people (in the human sense) One is a Christian and one is not. The non-christian could be Jewish, Muslum, Atheist, Or anything else, it doesn't matter. You know which is which. Who would you save and why?
If you're non-christian you're welcome to answer.

Please read my profile if you haven't talked to me before.

I went to a Baptist church last night. The sermon was mostly about Easter and what Easter really is, which didn't really mean anything to me as I know so very little about the religion. So I wanted to ask the preacher a few questions after the sermon.

He got very angry when I started talking about any other religions! I thought he was going to kick me out of the church! He probably would have if he didn't know about my situation. And then, afterward, he talked to the van driver and asked him not to bring me back!

Is this normal? This is the only church that my home goes to.

This subject generated a few more questions.
1. I believe that TRUE christianity is what Christ taught... what is backed up by bible facts not what some man standing on a stage tells me.
2. Also, as far as pagan beliefs being adopted by christians in the bible- this is true but it was not what Moses, Abraham, John, Paul, Peter practiced. They shunned the pagan beliefs and refused to be a part of this. They stayed true to what was original. These were TRUE christians.

in his own words he said, What I have done you can do also. Possibly even greater things. It seems not many people study The New Testament to learn what Jesus had done to change him into the man he had become.

I want to know why it is that when someone asks a question about religion, that does not revolve around whether or not you believe, a proportion of the athiests in this site are arrogant enough to step in and say "God is a figment of mans imagination".

Does it make you feel better about how much more "realistic" you are?

Or can you not just accept the fact that there are more people in this world that believe in some kind of a higher power than just a chance happening like you do?

Do you find it impossible to comprehend that we dont believe because we have to, or because we need to, but because something within us allows us to.

If any of you can answer me these questions in a way that does not belittle me with your language, or a way that is not rude nor abrupt, then I would be grateful.

I would also like the religious here not to attack athiests either.

God (christian variety) created Adam and Eve so that they could live eternal bliss in that paradise called Eden, right? Or did he set us up? I find it troubling that an all powerful, all knowing, all loving god would not know that the serpent he placed on earth with Adam and Eve would talk Eve into eating an apple.
Further, I find it even more troubling that such a god would put such an apple on earth within reach of Adam and Eve. Sure, he said not to eat it, but if I'm not mistaken, Adam and Eve were brand new people. This means that they had the self control and moral compass of a 12 month old child. For those who have children, you know how hard it is to keep kids away from getting into things you tell them not to touch, especially if it's easily accessible.
If god designed people, and had a divine plan when he created them, then his plan had to include roasting humans in eternal fire. Why would he set us up this way? Why would he intentionally put us on earth with satan

to say that you truly understand the bible and the word of god, yet the only explanation you can give for why god does the many unexplainable things that occur in the world is something to the effect of, "only god knows." if you truly understand god, shouldn't you be able to explain his reasoning?

i mean surly if science is wrong about the age of the planet and evolution you cant be very confident that every thing else science has to say is correct right. so if science is wrong about 1 thing then surly religious people are a lil weary about believing anything else that is suposedly scientific fact. and then what do they do they dont have a book to reference.
