And God said, "I am sick of your stinking sacrifices".

Dear "no name" - I challenge you to be open-minded enough to search for that verse. Or, at least ask an elderly person to help you find it. -

Dear "child" - your open-mindedness is coming through loud and clear.

Instead of sacrifices, what did God want?

Bingo Bango! - The winner is "WolfeB". God wants us to show mercy toward each other. (some) Church leaders want us to sacrifice. "Give me your money, cause God needs a new car, and he wants me to drive it."

Dear Moshaw - Your answer was also a winner.

There are several possible verses that fit your description:

Jeremiah 6:20 To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

Amos 5:21 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

And what God really wanted is for His people to know more of His ways and to show mercy to each other:

Hosea 6:6 For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

A minister can't neglect to tell his people that there is a very real Hell and that those who reject Christ will go there. But on the other hand, he can't make that his sole theme, either. God wants His children to be merciful to each other and to the world in general -- something which does not come easily to most of us, I'm sad to say.

And because it's easier to hold grudges and refuse to show mercy to others, that may be why the text is so seldom preached. Few people are willing to convict themselves of sin.

Are you talking about Jeremiah 6:20, Isaiah 1:11? The reason God is tired of the animal sacrifices of His people is because they are not sincere. They would sin, make sacrifices and return to their sin again. And yes, I've heard people preach on that before.

God wants them to obey!

I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God. The only sweet smelling sacrifice to God is a gift given in love.

Why do scientists neglect to show us the evidence that goes against evolution? That has always puzzled me. One can always find evidence to support a theory, but when one finds something wrong isn't it time to get a new theory?

You can prove that a lot of stuff can happen, but when one piece of evidence says sorry it couldn't have happened, i think it is time to get a new theory rather than look over it.

Because too many preachers don't understand the lesson of King Saul. Saul got kinda full of himself and figured he could do his own stuff his own way. He didn't understand that to God, obedience is better than sacrifice. (that's the passage you meant, isn't it?)

I remember a verse like that. The people were practicing their rituals without any faith. In God's eyes they were falling away, backsliding if you will. Going through the ritual without any of the heart it takes to trust Him.

Good spot.

Because a preacher would know that isn't a verse in the Bible. That is why they wouldn't preach about it since they only preach from verses in the Bible.
