I've been a self-hater for many, many years. I never thought about it the way you have worded it. Now I'll be up all night pondering this. Nevertheless, thank-you for such a powerful insight.

There's a difference between pride and self-esteem.

So, is loving oneself pride?
When I came to love God, as a result I came to accept myself, my self-esteem was built up. I don't think my tendancey to pride worsened at all though. Pride is often the opposite of self-esteem, and can be the unhealthy result of a lack of self-esteem.

If you're prideful about yourself you really don't love yourself.

Pride and love do not fit in the same heart.

I have a picture of my nephew. I love my nephew, but I only think of the picture as a nice image of him. But pride is not loving yourself, but rather thinking that you are deserving of a thing simply because you think you are.

It's kinda like loving a "picture of God" {if that were possible} to continue the analogy. So how is it the same thing?

You may be made in God's image, but you are not God.... one might draw a picture of a flower, but it's not a real flower.
