Handwritten, illustrated Bible revisits ancient tradition
Images from modern times also intermixed into new work
NAPLES, FLA. — The pages are made of calfskin, the ink is 500 years old, the letters each perfectly inscribed with quills. And yet for all the antiquity the St. John’s Bible embraces, there are decidedly modern signs, too — images of terrorist targets, urban apartment buildings, even cheering football fans.
This is more than just another edition of the Bible.
The text has been painstakingly handwritten and illustrated at a master calligrapher’s studio in a converted shed in Wales, a remarkable convergence of past and present that includes everything from prehistoric cave paintings to satellite images from space.
The story of Adam and Eve features an African man and woman, whose likenesses were influenced by photographs of Ethiopian tribespeople.

>>> even such a word? If as the Bible says, "the poor will always be amongst us", why would HE put "poor" people on the earth in the first place..to be subjected to early deaths, disease lack of food and clearn water, etc.
I've been reading your Bible. It is most enlightening But some of what I read seems to have been written by people who had an agenda, and not a godly agenda.

"What was it that Adam ate that he wasn't supposed to eat? It wasn't just an apple. It was the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The subtle message? 'Get smart and I'll f*** you over' sayeth the Lord. God is the smartest, and he doesn't want any Competition. Is this not an absolutely anti-intellectual religion?"
--Frank Zappa

Thanks to the Great Gazoo for informing us of this wonderful quote. Yes, Frank was eccentric, to put it mildly. This quote is remarkably true of the biblical god. Zappa hit this one right on the head, in my opinion.

...take out of the bible what works for them and say the rest doesn't apply? Lots of churches/denominations don't follow the same things. Last time I checked, pretty much all the bibles say the same thing. So if it's in the bible that you must be born again of the water(being baptized in Jesus' name) and the spirit(being filled with the Holy Ghost). Why don't all churches beleive it? It's in the bible with the rest of what they beleive...Just wondering

How do you argue he wasn't, when you consider the following quote from 'Origins?'

"To my mind it (evolution) accords better with what we know of the laws impressed on matter by the Creator, that the production and extinction of the past and present inhabitants of the world should have been due to secondary causes, like those determining the birth and death of the individual. . . . There is grandeur in this view of life . . . having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that . . . from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved."

.....we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God?"

At least the father of the United States of America's Declaration of Independence (Thomas Jefferson) had a concept of God. Thank God he had US in mind when he wrote it.

He went on to say:
"That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever."
Strong words from the "father" to those that would take away these rights.

Christianity existed for 2000 years, several millions or even billions people died during that time, and a lot more will die in the future.

Isn't it a bit overcrowded either in heaven or in hell now? or if only 144,000 people will go to heaven (as some people believe), don't you think there are already 144,000 people there?
