Handwritten, illustrated Bible revisits ancient tradition
Images from modern times also intermixed into new work
NAPLES, FLA. — The pages are made of calfskin, the ink is 500 years old, the letters each perfectly inscribed with quills. And yet for all the antiquity the St. John’s Bible embraces, there are decidedly modern signs, too — images of terrorist targets, urban apartment buildings, even cheering football fans.
This is more than just another edition of the Bible.
The text has been painstakingly handwritten and illustrated at a master calligrapher’s studio in a converted shed in Wales, a remarkable convergence of past and present that includes everything from prehistoric cave paintings to satellite images from space.
The story of Adam and Eve features an African man and woman, whose likenesses were influenced by photographs of Ethiopian tribespeople.

What a weird statement from a supposedly religious man:
“It seems that the words have value when you go through the trouble to do it in this way,” he said. Did he think the Bible had no value as God's word until he participated in copying it?? The article makes it sound as if he wants the glory for himself that doing such a work would entail. It may be just the journalistic coverage, however.

Every bible is a compromise among accuracy and clarity. Highly paraphrased bibles just like the Living Bible or New Living Translation could be very readable however very totally paraphrased (just a little like a kid's bible however extra grown up), very well for dwelling use and private bible research if you are simply establishing. Dynamic Equivalence bibles are joyful mediums among accuracy and clarity - the various bibles in your record fall into this class. Good to be used in church buildings but in addition well for dwelling research for moderately extra complex christians. Literal translations are just a little extra heavy going however extra correct. If you desire high-quality accuracy with first-rate crisis in studying then opt for an interlinear Hebrew, Greek English translation. That's approximately so far as you'll get along with your reviews with out finding out Greek and Hebrew. When you get to this stage learn one of the crucial today's translations first as they are just a little extra convenient to learn earlier than happening to the older types (however be careful for the ye olde language) it could take slightly being used to and slightly dictionary paintings if you were not introduced up inside a devout family. You must consider in phrases of sliding scales the extra accuracy you desire the fewer readable it turns into and the extra convenient it's to learn the fewer correct it turns into. Don't check out to hurry in for an excessive amount of accuracy immediately on the fee of know-how, you might simply get beaten.

500 year old ink does make the writing accurate. One sentence from this article stood out to me "The work sends a message about the universality of faith across time. In a sense, it seeks to be all things to all people." It is impossible for something that attempts to be all things to all people to maintain honesty and accuracy. This may be taken as a work of art, but not much more than this.

Dear ma'am ... God's inspired word consists of 66 books of the bible from Genesis to Revelation. All inspired by the holy spirit to be penned by different writers. The the Authroized 1611 King James Bible is all every Christian needs to know of what God has for you. Yes there is many letter written back or other books but they are not God inspired and I would not read any other bible than a KJV bible.

What is your source?

Handwritten is really cool, but I don't like illustrated Bibles at all.

Plus, it doesn't say anything about the actual translation just the WAY it was made.

I'm not sure that all that could be done, and necessarily be wrong in God's eyes, as long as it speaks God's Word truthfully. We apply the Word of God to everyday experiences, and this has been done in print for a very long time.

Sounds kinda silly to me. And WHERE are they getting 500 year old ink??? Too bad they don't say anything about the actual translation. I wonder if they meant 'edition'?

What is it translated from? The Greek? The Aramaic? The Hebrew?
