Why believe into something that you can't see, hear, smell, taste or feel?

This evening while i was out at dinner i witnessed a family joining hands, bowing their heads, and praying before their meal. It got me thinking about something. If i am correct then the purpose of this sort of prayer is to thank god for providing this family with food to eat. Why do this and not go back into the kitchen and thank the cook who so artfully prepared their meal? Why not thank human resources at work for giving them a paycheck which they used to purchase this meal?

It appears that religion spares no thought to thank whichever god they choose to believe in but wholely ignores the human effort that goes into the things they take for granted.... Would this be a correct assumption? Doesn't it seem a little odd?

Bible enthusiasts: One chapter of Genesis says beasts were created, God saw it was good, so he created man. The next chapter says God created man, then made animals and let Adam name them all.

So, which one do you go with?

Sorry; This question is being repeated as it was put earlier in a wrong category and many members were kind enough to point out it to me. I am now taking corrective action.

You love God only when you love His creations, particularly those who are in distress and you believe in true brotherhood between people irrespective of men-carved divisions.

You fear God when you suppress your thoughts on the assumption that it will displease Him and attribute to him as harbouring all evil qualities we find among us like envy, revenge, avarice and all other mean qualities one can think of.

You neither love nor fear God when you fail in your assigned duties - mostly humane.

Kindly express moderation and dignity while replying as some in earlier instances were found melting in self-generated heat caused by their anger.

I was reading some it one day. And it sounded more like a love story between a man and his wife. It's the only book in the bible I understand. I really think it's a nice poetic verse. What do you think of the Song of Solomon? By the way, I'm a non-christan.

Why don't they just state it like it is?
It is just an opinion, theory!!!

There is the theory of evolution.
There is the theory of creationism.

While both have strong & weak points (seemingly), the fact is:
Neither have been proven conclusively to be fact.

I believe it should be illegal to teach these opinions as fact till we know for sure.

While each do provide neat sounding "solutions" to the problems, I hate to remind people that back in the day, it was also "proven" as fact that the earth was held up on the back of an elephant that stood on a turtle.

And Ra the sun God drove his chariot across the sky each day to bring light. It was a known, indisputable fact.

I feel the real truth is, that no-one was there, no-one saw it.
Just like you would expect to have someone that actually saw a wreck when witnessing in court of law, the same should apply here also.

Since we have no-one that has seen it & can prove it yet, they should be taught as the theories they are.

Not facts?

Christians can answer this one. Can you do that same with a rational argument. I assume that you hold to the dictum "It is unreasonable or irrational to believe in x without sufficient evidence." --Hence your disregard to the Christian God.

This is already the third account I'm using on Y!A. One was terminated, one was nearly terminated.

I'm an atheist, and a respectful one. For some reason a little group of Christians has a love for the report abuse button. How do I know it's Christians? They told me. They are even proud of that.

I'm not whining here, because I simply don't care. I do have a few questions though:

Do you realize that with reporting me, and having my questions deleted, you take away the opportunity to enlighten me about your God? According to your Bible it is your duty to do so.

Do you also realise that with doing this, you actually violate your Hole Book? God tells you to tell me His word. If not, you sin and you will burn in Hell. Forever and ever and ever. Mind you, this is not a threat, this is a friendly loving warning. But you know that, you warn people every day.

(This will probably be my last question, since I got a final warning. See ya on a new account)

Does it ever bother you when you see other Christians speaking hatefully or judging towards those of other faiths?

The insults go both ways, I understand this. So, I don't need to hear any Tu Quoque arguments about how hateful atheists are. That's not the question. I'm admitting that neither group is any better than the other.

But as a Christian, does it bother you to see one of your fellow Christians behaving so badly? Examples being things like : "It is entirely your fault for not following Jesus. We are merely following God's holy word. When Jesus is torturing you filthy heathens in hell your whining will not do you any good. You better follow him now or he will rip your atheist hearts out." (From one of the regular self proclaimed Christians on R&S)

Are you likely to say something to these people, or do you usually just ignore it? Or do you agree that they should be constantly on the attack and are justified?
