Yes, it certainly is. It's a clever bit of marketing, but still reflects the religionists efforts to get Christian indoctrination included in tax-supported schools, which the churches don't help pay for.

*Edit* acid_zebra: I like to say Intelligent Design is Creationism in sheep's clothing. Not quite as elegant, I admit.

Yes. Because intelligent design presumes an intelligent designer to intelligently design things, and only intelligent beings (such as God) can do this (when it comes to things like the Universe and the Earth anyway), so ultimately an "intelligent design" is really just the same as a "creation" really. But without, as yet, quite the amount of political baggage the words Creationism/Creator/Creation carry.

Some use it that way, but in essence, no it's not. Hard-core creationists reject much of ID. Creationism is based on the Bible and faith, not observation, while ID is based on observation of the natural world.

Creationism is teaching out of the book of Genesis, and elaborating it, and comparing it to scientific evidence.

Intelligent design is NOT based in the Bible, or any other religious text. It's saying that if you look at things like organisms, the balance of nature, the composition of the earth, the human body, and other things.... well, it looks like a design, that came from a mind. As opposed to life and nature arising by itself. I believe it's much more logical than secular evolutionary philosophy.

Yes and no. creationists believe that the earth and everything on it were created in 6, 24 hour days...literally.

However, it is so very obvious that the earth and everything on it was created with intelligent design, but it hardly stands to reason that it happened in 6, 24 hour days.

Each creative day lasted for a very long period of time....well, I have to go, sorry I couldn't expound on this.

No it's a religious attempt to subvert science in disguise, in other words religious pseudo-scientific nonsense.
ID's agenda is to get religious propaganda back into schools.

Absolutely.

Yes, it's a poorly disguised way of saying "We want to teach our religion in science class but not call it religion."

Note that "creationism" isn't the same thing as "theism"; there are plenty of theists who have no problem accepting evolution.

has anyone made the "Intelligent Design Is Creationism in a Cheap Tuxedo" joke yet?

Yes. Creationists use the term Intelligent Design to make Creationism sound more scientific. They fail miserably at it.

It's the same thing. It's like how the Theory of Evolution is to evolutionism. Except.. Intelligent Design/creationism is bullshit!
