I always describe the love I feel for my girlfriend as "I would rather do horrible things with her, than beautiful things without her".

If she would end up in Hell, why would I even wanna be in Heaven?

Is it true that Charles Darwin was gay, and also the flower girl at his own wedding? Did he just think up evolution to make himself feel better?

I do not believe they are, I think it is peoples own perception of the Christian life.

Many people don't like to think about the possibility that there isn't some great plan for our lives. Many people believe we are part of some destiny or plan, and are either puppets on a string or close to it.

Does it scare you to think that good people just die sometimes, and it doesn't happen for a reason? This is something I've thought about a lot since my mom died at a young age-was there a "reason" for her death? Or did s***happen? My first reaction was to want to find a reason it happened, to ease the pain a little. It's been the most profound experience in my life and I had to find meaning in it.

Here's what I found- my mom died because she didn't take care of herself. Period. If I want to find any meaning in that it's up to me, but there was no divine meaning in it. God didn't "need" her in heaven.

There isn't a God out there that needs little children to die from starvation.

Has anyone else wondered about this? Had any different conclusions?

... does it ever give you pause for thought that most of the atheists on this board were formerly very, very committed Christians? That they thought about their faith and studied the Bible, but reached a point where they prayed to maintain their beliefs, and wept for them, before abandoning them? That once, they were exactly like YOU?

An easy way out would be, "Well, then, they were never true believers", but from what some of them say, that is no way true. So I don't think it would be dignified to accuse them of that. I wonder if some such atheists would attest to this (as it doesn't apply to me).

Do you ever spent any quiet moments reflecting that one day you will wonder whether what you have held to be absolutely true may be false? Do you wonder if your life may follow a similar direction to others who have believed as strongly as you do now?

I should say I'm not asking anyone to become an atheist. I genuinely wonder about the quality of your doubt - rather than your faith.

How would you feel if the pledge of allegiance went "One nation, under Allah" ?

Or if our currency said "In Mohamed We Trust"?

From ancient Egypt... the 42 Declarations of Purity, spoken to the Gods in the afterlife in order to gain access to immortality. Apparently they predate the Ten Commandments by a couple of thousand years.

Do any of them look familiar?

THE 42 DECLARATIONS OF PURITY

I have not killed, nor bid anyone kill.
I have not committed adultery or rape.
I have not avenged myself nor burned with rage.
I have not caused terror.
I have not assaulted anyone nor caused anyone pain.
I have not caused misery.
I have not done any harm to man or to animals.
I have not caused the shedding of tears.
I have not wronged the people nor bear them any evil intent.
I have not stolen nor taken that which does not belong to me.
I have not taken more than my fair share of food.
I have not damaged the crops, the fields, or the trees.
I have not deprived anyone of what is rightfully theirs.

For the first time since becoming a Christian, I didn't pray or take the time to study God's word in the morning like I usually do because I was in a bad mood and felt doubts creeping in. I posted a question here about "women's issues" that were testing my patience and emotions.
Within 45 minutes, I happened to receive an email newsletter from a woman's health website talking about the EXACT same problem that had been troubling me all day! My questions were answered and I felt such relief.

I think it's a sign that I need to keep my faith, don't you?

Can I ask, why if religious people post an answer like 'I will pray for you', why do people give it multiple thumbs down, especially if it is a religiously-linked question!
If you don't like Christians etc, live with it!

I have no interest in being under religious dogma. I think it's not for me. It's hard for me because many peopel in the Black and Hispanic community are religious and God-fearing and it's hard for me to make friends with other Black kids because I have a different set of beliefs. ANd my family is very religious and it seems that they don't =understand me. I feel so alone. Should I join or religion or not ?

Hell was also not a literal place in Aramaic. In Matthew 5:22, "hell fire" is translated as "mental suffering." In Matthew 16:18, the "gates of hell" are translated as "evil forces, or opposition." Sheol was translated simply as "a resting place for the dead" but not a place of torment. Hell was used to refer to what one experiences on earth, the mental suffering that goes along with making wrong choices. In this way, the "punishment" for our sins is the consequences of our own actions. We needn't fear this will be held against us in the afterlife because we are receiving the punishment for it now.

Satan is from the Hebrew שטן satan or Aramaic שטנא satana meaning "accuser, adversary".

I wonder to whose advantage was it to alter the true meaning of those words? Did the church desire to use control through fear?

How can we as Christians justify abortion when in the Bible it says that the Lord 'knew' us before we were born? He knew us before we were even conceived. What do you say about this.
To those of you who aren't Christian, please feel free to voice your opinion, simply understand that I am speaking as a believer and that life is to precious to destroy out of a need for convenience.

In my previous question I stated that I have never sinned. Nor will I ever sin. Hell, I don't even like shelfish.

Why is it that every Christian constantly tells me that according to them I constantly sin?

Is it simply because if a person never sins, Jesus would become useless? Do Christians actually want people to sin?
