Can I ask, why if religious people post an answer like 'I will pray for you', why do people give it multiple thumbs down, especially if it is a religiously-linked question!
If you don't like Christians etc, live with it!

swordarkeereon;
I do live with it, everyday!

I live, in my household, people who have not found the glory of God.

I do live with it, but I am attempting to make change aswell

Sometimes people give thumbs down just because of their own intolerance. You can research a question and provide legitimate sources such as an encycolpedia but because they saw something different on a web site that agrees with their quack opinion they couldn't care less of be bothered to do any form of research.

I only give thumbs down if the answer is truly insulting or utterly stupid. I prefer to give thumbs up.

If someone prays for me - well it's not the worst thing they can do but I don't believe in prayer. Others really don't like it on principle and some who do this are not sincere.

There's nothing with that statement. I'm a Muslim and hey I could use your prayers if you are offering them...just as long as they directed towards God directly :P

I pray for the nonbelievers that they will find the truth and God will have mercy on them.

The thumbsdown you get is mostly from atheists who think they are smarter than 99% of the world :P

I could ask the same question as to why Christians are always giving me thumbs down for being Pagan. If you don't like Pagans, live with it. Same with Atheists. If you don't like them, don't give their answers a thumbs down and live with it. We could on and on with this. Everyone gets thumbed down by those who believe differently. That's life.

So you are definitely christian. Because some of us( like me!) don't believe in God, or is a atheist and will give a proud thumbs down for people like Christians. And, just to tell you, LIVE with IT.

Well, the thumbs system is supposedly to denote a good or bad answer. In the context of agreeing or disagreeing to a prayer request there aren't really any good or bad answers. I can't see why anyone would use the thumbs in this instance but equally I can't see why it would make any difference to you.

People give thumbs down for answers that don't coincide with their own opinion. Y!A suggests the thumbs down should be used for an answer that is not helpful. Yet most people use it to show disdain for the answer simply because they don't agree with it.

If an honest expression of concern for me was put forth in that offer I would not be upset, but generally the statement oozes with self righteous condescending sarcasm

We are a society that values MTV. We do not value wholesome things and we rebel against religion.

Much of the fault is to be given to Christians who preach and judge. That is not what Christianity is about, it is about love. But, until we change that stigma people will pretend to be atheist.

"I will pray for you" is never given as the ANSWER. It is usually used as a postscript AFTER answering. Many take this type of `compliment` as smugness. IE. I will light a Black Candle for you personally. Get it ?
