I'm a looker too.
When religious folk come to my house (my mother included) they are forbidden to pray at the dinner table. Religious prayer is nothing more than masturbation since you can't hope to affect god's decision in any matter. I mean, if god wants everyone of my dinner guests to die from salmonella, then praying to make the food free from disease isn't gonna make a lick of difference is it? At least you can ask him to bless the salmonella. Praying only serves to make the person saying the prayer feel good. Just like masturbating.
So...
When someone starts to pray at my dinner table I simply ask them to stop masturbating and if they must masturbate to go and do it in the bathroom like I do.

not me. if everybody around me wants to pray thats fine. just because they are praying to a god doesn't mean i can't use that time to bow my head and be thankful for my parents, my friends, my life, or anything else, even if i don't believe it was a god that gave me them, it was just luck. i AM grateful. i am not an atheist because i am trying to prove a point, i am an atheist because i don't believe in a god. i am not "proud" of being an atheist any more than i'm "proud" of being female or a brunette, so why would i think i had to "hold my head high and look around" as if i was trying to make some petty statement? i'd much rather think about how blessed i am than make a statement, and when other people are doing the same thing is the perfect time for me to do it.

I'm an exchange student in Chile which is about 85% Cathlic. I'm suposed to be a sort of diplomat for my country, the US. I go to church sometimes with my family and I do bow my head. I feel like if I didn't it would be disrespectful, like spiting on the bible or something, and that's not very diplomatic. Also if I looked around I think it would create just another difference between me and the people I'm supposed to be close to. I feel kind of shameful for pretending I'm something I'm not, but I think it's a resonable price to pay to not open more gaps. Besides, it there anything realy intresting to look at?

I typically bow my head, as the only time I'm around group prayers is at weddings or funerals, and I don't want to be disrespectful.

I never bow my head, nor do I close my eyes. I don't see many public prayers, this is more about saying grace during the holidays.

If I see anybody praying I would just simply walk away and let them pray. I would step away from the situation for a few minutes and go about doing something else as not to disturb them from their prayer.

Easier to go with the flow. You gotta pick your battles.
Usually I bow and still look around.

I tend to look when I'm in a place where public prayers occur. I'm not often there, though.... Maybe once per year.
