Sexism? Or was he just a bit gay?

2007-03-09 03:59:39 · 7 answers · asked by Anonymous

I was in my New Testament class today and we were talking about the first missionary trips. Timothy had voluntarily had himself circumsised [sp] so that the Jewish people would listen to him speak. Because that is one of their laws.
However my question
...in theory i suppose...
How would the Jewish people know wheter he was circumsized or not?

41And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

I am also wondering why Jesus had to leave for the Holy spirit to come. The Holy Spirit was around and active before Jesus left, so what changed?

this is an excerpt from the book "Be Intolerant for Some Things are Just Stupid"

The Only Way

And Jesus said unto His disciples, “Go into all the world, teaching all men to live any way they want, and urging each to find his or her own path to God. Let not any one of you make someone feel inferior or victimized because of your beliefs. Above all, be tolerant. Verily, verily, I say unto you that what you believe and how you live do not matter, so long as you are sincere.”

Leaving that place, Jesus led His disciples to Jerusalem where they broke bread at Club Upper Room. There He addressed them again, saying, “I am one of the ways, one of the truths, and just one possible life. If you are basically a good person, you’re okay in my book. And if you choose to come to the Father (or Mother, if you prefer) through Me, that’s cool. Now go forth to live according to whatever feels good to you.”

And there was much rejoicing.

Which Bible Version Was That?

I freely confess that when I was around 12 or 13, I was in awe of Erich von Daniken's 'Ancient Astronauts' theory. It just had to be true! There was so much 'evidence' and it was such a wonderful, exciting idea to me at that time. However, mostly due to my Dad's patient examination of some of the 'evidence' with me, and the way he taught me to assess claims more rationally, I gradually accepted that Daniken's theory really had no foundation. All the 'evidence' was far too ambiguous, and could be explained in other more mundane down-to-earth ways. Occam's Razor, and all that.

At the time it irked me to have my illusions shattered, but today, I'm very glad that someone took the time to help me towards a more rational worldview.

If you're religious today, can you imagine a similar process happening to you? Well that is what a lot of people here would like to help you with. We believe that you will be grateful that we did, in the end, for the same reason that I'm grateful now.

"Why do Christians lie?"
"Why do Muslims involved in terrorism?"
"Why do Atheists are being hypocrites?"

Let's ask a more important question, why do we generalize? As a Muslim, I can understand how painful it is when just because a couple of bad apples act up, the whole organization is blamed. But, why do we generalize?

Why can't we just refer to the people responsible instead?

Here is what you do that I have seen. You ask a person to study with you,and instead of studying the Bible, you study a paragraphed book with numbered questions. It only quotes the Bible.Do you actually consider a man made book study a Bible study?

Just one example from today's fodder:
"What makes those who hold to evolution as their religion...."

I've studied enough to understand the basics of how evolution works and I enjoy the challenge of addressing misconceptions about it here. Why should that make it my religion?

In just my old small Christian highschool my gym teacher was quietly dismissed and flown out of the country for touching 2nd grade girls. Before coming to my school my Bible teacher was divorced and dismissed from his church in Texas for improper behavior with little boys. When he got to my school he became paster of another Church and had weekly sleep overs with young boys from his Church. Not to mention all those Priests who love little boys.

What % of pedophiles use the instant trust that is provided by claiming to be a servant to gain access to innocent kids? And how can parents allow their kids to sleep over a non family members house? To sleep in the house of a person who is essentially a stranger, no matter how much you think you know them?

Why is it that some people, who ask very biased questions and only give "Best Answers" to people who conform to their way of thinking, often don't allow others to contact them through e-mail, IM, or a 360 page?

If you're so secure in your beliefs, why not allow others the chance to discuss even if you're off the Y!Answers page?

My mother in law is heavily into religion. If anyone has read my posts, you'll see that she can be a little over the top. In the past, I have told my mother in law that I don't want to discuss religion and have gotten into a fight about it because she tries to push it on me and my husband. She tells me that I need to get rid of my husband's violent movies and get him to listen to religious music. I am a Christian. I went to catholic school for 9 years and I taught in a catholic school for 6 years.
Ever since our fight, she's slowly talking about religion again. It burns me up inside because I told her that I don't want to discuss. My husband (her son) doesn't agree with parts of her religion either but lets her talk to appease her. But everytime she's here in our house...it never fails. I know it's a big part of her life but there are other things to talk about and I just feel like she's disreguarding what I said.
What can I say or should I just suck it up and deal with it
