God and the literal genesis interpretation are two examples, but I fail to understand why people would continue to believe in any things that are pure allegory, demonstrably fake or plainly idiotic. Ghosts aren't real, David Icke talks a lot of rot, Uri Geller is a fake, crop circles were made by a couple of bored dudes and copied the world over. Some people believe in a god (or gods) but gods are no more likely to exist than (as Bertram Russell put it) there is a china teapot orbitting the sun.

James Randi stilll has a cool million to give to anyone who can prove to have supernatural powers and so far not one person has managed to demonstrate such powers in controlled experiments. Yet people still believe in these charlatans.

WHY!?

"I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh.....defeat them and destroy them utterly....Make no treaty with them and show no favor to them." (Deuteronomy 7:1-2)

"When God gives (a city) into your hands , kill all the men in it....Do not leave alive anything that breathes." (Deuteronomy 20:10-17)

"Kill every male child and baby and kill every woman who is not a virgin. But save for yourself the virgin girls." (Numbers 31:17-18)

"As for my enemies who do not want me (Jesus) to reign over them, bring them here and kill them in my presence." (Luke 19:26-27)

"Do not think I (Jesus) have come to send peace on the earth. I did not come to send peace, but a sword."( Matthew 10:34)

Christians are indeed hypocrites!

God supposedly knows all before it even happens. Our lives our destined to certain things only God knows before they are done. Why would he leave a "tree of sin" in their garden and expect them not to give in to temptation? Sure the serpent helped, but God should have known this was to happen. Was he not watching them like he is said to be doing all the time? Watching everyone at all times of the day and night. The sin of Adam and Eve would affect us all today in present time and in the future. No one can no longer be born innocent. It’s not fair that their mistake in their lifetime should cause us sin in our lifetime many years later. If God had prevented the tree from the Eden, then maybe our society could be pure. Why would he leave the tree of knowledge for Adam and Eve to sin with in the Garden of Eden?

Based on the survey I conducted 15 minutes ago, it is safe to say that even if God Himself appeared before an Atheist, the atheist would think he's nuts before believing there is a God.

Considering the God is an all-knowing God, he would already know the atheist would still reject him,

So hypothetically speaking, if God does exists, is it plausible for him to think this way:

"Forget it, even if I appear in front of you, you'd still think I don't exist. What's the point if even I you deny, how can you believe the other hints. Therefor, it is pointless for me to appear in front of you, because no matter what you will not believe."

So hypothetically if God does exist, the reason he wouldn't show himself in front of an atheist because no matter what, the atheist just wouldn't believe. If the atheist would believe, the hints would be enough and He wouldn't have the need to appear.

Is this statement plausible?

I come on here everyday and I hear people talking about their Christian, but they totally ignore the teachings of the Bible. They would rather make up the excuse that man wrote the Bible and its not what God wanted. Now I don't care what kind of group you fall under in the Christian category. The basis of Christianity is the Bible, so if you believe that man manipulated it for their own gain, then what's the point of calling yourself a Christian if you don't believe in God's teachings?

I am an Atheistic Atheist so this really doesn't affect me directly but...It would be so nice if right here on R&S a love affair could start between a Theist and an Athiest (like Romeo and Juliet) and we could (discreetly of course) monitor their love notes to each other. Wouldn't that be fun....only the most serious of replies PLEASE!

I do not practice witchcraft and I realize that it is against your religion but why a disproportionate amount of hate against this particular viewpoint then any other that goes against your faith?

Im referencing the Godcamp (Harry Potter) scene where people clap because the lady said witches would be killed back in the day.
Yes I also realize that that camp probably isnt the best example of normal Christians.

Since Jesus came to earth as a Jew, why have so many European and American Christians hated rather than loved His ethnic group?

''Atheists- can you prove God doesn't exists?''

I CANNOT PROVE THAT FYING SPAGGETTI MONSTER DOESN'T EXIST EITHER! DOES THAT MAKE IT REAL?

So...we have to believe that everything exists until it proves it doesn't, huh?
i thought it would be the opposite!!!

I was wondering what people's thoughts are about organized religion vs. maintaining one's own religion in a private manner.
Due to my interest in Buddhism (related to my own religion of Hinduism) I checked out and joined a suitable religious organization for a year or two to learn more about it. The people were very nice and kept saying "chant this, you'll be happy and successful." I am glad that works for them, and I don't deny that it works. But I think some of them would have thought it strange if they knew that I only wanted to learn more about their religion, not follow a new set of prayers or practice to change my life. I know they mean well, but its sad to me to think that some of them think thats the "only/best method to success/happiness/fulfillment in life". (Yes, some of them have explicitly made this clear).
This close-mindedness I experienced turns me off from organized religions (I've also read rants about similar issues from other org.religions).

I am called gay because I practice Wicca and I don't treat girls like trash. Lately I have come to think that they may all be right (even though I don't feel that way for boys) because, all of them against one of me, they could have noticed something that I haven't. I am REALLY confused.

Absolutely Nothing is impossible to imagine, and yet something simply always being without a beginning, without end, cause or creator seems utterly unimaginable. Yet that is what we must admit. Something has existed forever, and yet how can a universe or anything exist without a viewer? in addition if more than one thing has always existed, differentiated from one another , how can that be? It seems to me we must accept that and that is no harder than accepting a self existent being. In fact a self existent being versus non being has more explanantory power.

what does jesus teach us that is so divine?

-love
-dont do bad things (cheat on your partner, overeat, kill, steal, DUH)
-if someone hurts you dont hurt them back

...thats basicly it. as far as his non-heaven related instructinos to us anyway. i hear many people say that jesus was so wise and his brilliant words prove his very existance. and i ask.. isnt all that stuff kind of obvious? like, OF COURSE, we woudlnt have war or fight if we all loved each other and were compassionate towards one another. DUH. it doesnt take God to figure that one out.

what about his teaching makes you think they are divine? where is the aw inspiring wisdom?

Christians tend to respond to legitimate questions with nothing but hatred and whimsical passion. It is inexplicible behavior when you consider the normal course of conversations in society.
Is it part of their religion?
